its clean simple and effective. i used a course carbon as i am using a small 50cfm inline fan if you are using i bigger fan i would use a finer charcoal.

the list

4" roof vent cap 10 bucks
4" vent extention and cap. 3 bucks( or free, i just took the plastic cap of and put the tube inside the vent cap, and went to self check out.)
carbon 8 bucks
window screen already had.

tools

flat head screw driver
hot glue gun
tin snips
pliers
elbow grease

heres what your looking for at the depot.but notthe charcoal

you need to pry the top of the vent cap of with the flat head.

then hot glue the screen to the inside of the vent to hold in the charcoal.

now take 4" extention witch must be really like 3" and 9/10ths cuz it slides in vent cap. you need to cut the midel so there are two bands one at the top one at the bottom. hard to explain and it was even harder for me to do.the wrap it in screen and glue in place.

i had shitty tin snipps and it was awful. so its a little mangled.

now glue the extention inside the vent cap

i filled in the bottom part with pollyfill as air wont flow there, now fill with carbon.

i toped it of with pollyfill to keep the carbon where it should be wile i pry the top back in place

and thats it. it should look just like it did when you got it.

here it is in a grow cab.

You know I saw that same roof vent in the ducting area and thought to myself that I knew there was a way to make shift that into a carbon filter of some kind. I think this would work GREAT! I'm heading to the depot tomorrow to put up these supplies. But before I do, how well did it work. My grow space is quite larger than yours so I'm wondering if I would need something bigger? I just hate to break down and buy a $125 filter fan combo when I know there's a diy method out there to save me $5o bucks easily. Good shit though bro!

Sorry for the delayed response iusemed everyone wanted to talk about growing with the light from an iPhone and not clean simple DIY projects.
I can not say how well it works as my beans haven't popped yet.but the air has to flow through the carbon so I can't see it not. Working for my size grow. The idea and set up of this can be done on a larger scale though

Good work man, and not just on the scrubber, on disabling geotagging on ur phone before posting pics from it. ;-)
Every once and awhile if I find a pic like that, i'll msg the user with their GPS coords and address to scare them into disabling it. Better me find it then LEO's.

I like the scrubber though. Had a 20 year grower tell me that most DIY scrubbers are useless, and that they simply make us feel better about the smell, and maybe have a small effect overall, it has more to do with the packing of the carbon then the design of the scrubber. That any DIY is impossible to pack the carbon to a degree where it's truly effective.

I'm not arguing that's the case, im simply giving information I was once offered.

Thanks for all the info, and who care about geotags I'm just some 12 year old in his parents basement with no plants I just want people to think I'm cool,

As for the scrubber, I agree with what your friend said, I would say 99.9% of diy scrubbers, thus the name of the thread, iv seen people sewing spunges together with carbon in the middle and all sorts week sause, so its no suprise people think poorly of them.
