I want to start this off by saying Thanks to RIU and everyone in it. I love this site and get a ton of inspiration from it. Thanks!!
Ok so lets get started. What I did was went and got a couple paint respirators from the hardware store and popped the tops off using a flathead screw driver and removing the filling. I used 2 respirator replacements and gutted them completely then filled it back up with activated carbon from walmart and Viola. Insert it into a 3" pipe or ducting and hook up a can fan or inline fan and it works like a charm. I don't know how long it will last nor do I know what kind of load it can handle. I just made it and it is working so far for me.
Here are some pictures so you can get the visual idea. I am still working on the DIY instructions to this but here is a basic layout lol. Seal it off by using duct tape or just fold the metal back over. Not sure how easily these can be obtained anymore but I hope this helps at least inspire
