where can i purchase ethanol?

Hi, I have never bought ethanol..

is This a common enough solvent to buy at hardware or auto parts store?

Im looking for 190 proof (~95.5% azeotropic) polar ethanol or better..
its difficult going from Store to store searching around my area..

Haha, what are you using it for and how much you need? I found 99.9% on eBay but it's hard to find per cause the govt is afraid you're a 15 yo and gonna drink it - so they put poison in it... Some logic, huh?

Everclear in the US at large discount liquor stores about $26US per liter. 190 proof, 95% ethanol, only toxic if you drink it.

190 proof isn't available in all states - some states it isn't available so call and check. Everclear is the way to go if you can get it.

Winterizing as in dewaxing? I use a methanol/acetone blend. Anhydrous and very clean (I distill it first). I gain the methanol by fractional distillation of windshield fluid. cn

can you tell me your methanol acetone procedure? i am very new to these processes..

Acetone from hardware store; I distill to remove the trace of heavies always present.
Methanol from windshield washer fluid, distilled 2x to constant boiling point.
I predissolve my oil in acetone, add methanol until it just begins to clump, then add acetone to make it flow freely again. Coupla days in the fridge, then filter.

Yoou can either let the solvents evaporate off (neither is poisonous in small amounts) or pour nthe mess into excess water (containing some Epsom to aid in pahse separation) and shake out with hexanes. Sourcing those is tougher, but i've seen'em online. cn

this as i thought, is turning out to be a difficult adventure! fuckk..

if i am lucky, i may be able to pick up some ever clear online..

you mention methanol from wind shield wiper fluid like its something im used too..

ughhh.. so, do i extract the methanol from the WW fluid?

i was able to find acetone at store.. but how else does this work with the methanol?

Simpson uses naphtha or Iso.

Simpson uses Light Naptha. Light Naptha has a lower boiling (easier to purge) than Heavy Naptha. Do not buy any Naptha without checking the MSDS for what is in the Naptha. I think HPLC Hexane would be easier to find.

diet coke: I don't think most moonshine falls short of 190-proof, not that it isn't delicious

thnx, found some 99.9% iso online, would this suffice to make "Simpson Oil"? I just wanna make my own as i dont know what im getting when i buy it, and it quite pricey too...
