| | The Who is definitely a force. But the best? As much as it pains me to disagree, I must. As far as groups that changed rock and roll like no other, here's mine: The Beatles.
The Rolling Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Doors, The Grateful Dead, The Velvet Underground, The Byrds, Pink Floyd, and The Flying Burrito Brothers all have their legacies, but none approaches the impact of the boys from Liverpool.
One can actually hear the difference in the quality of their output from the time Bob Dylan introduced them to weed. Contrast A Hard Day's Night (1964) to Rubber Soul (1965). They had so much impact they were able to say, in 1966, 'We're done. No more touring." No other group previously had that kind of juice.
They truly were bigger than Jesus.

My high school English honors class spent a semester examining Abby Road song by song, it was actually a LOT of fun.
I ended up getting kicked out of the class when the teacher misspelled 'vacuum' as 'vaccum', which I immediately pointed out, and when he argued, despite dictionarial support for my argument, I informed him he had no business taking our parents' money for teaching, let alone a senior honors class. I was irate, but I was right. I was also gone. |

If only someone could have stopped him. Anyway, it's The Foo Fighters doing a couple of covers. Put it on VH1, dude! |
