Ok, I thought this might be an interesting thread. Who do you think was the most talented rock band of all time? Who were the most talented rock musicians of all time. Best at a rock instrument? Not your favorite band necessarily but the most talented?

2. Best Singer - Freddie Mercury of Queen
3. Guitar - Hendrix
4. Drums - Carter Beauford - Dave Matthews Band
5. Touring Band - Grateful Dead
6. Bass - ????
7. Just for kicks - Best Female Rock Singer - Janis Joplin
8. Most talented overall rock musician - Stevie Wonder

i like your answers ... except for flyleaf and metallica (but metallica is definitely debatable. in their prime they were an awesome stadium band)

guitar is one of the most complicated subjects. i really dig what Tom Morello (sp?) does. of course, jimmy page, eddie van halen (just for talent, dont really like the music) i think mike mccreedy is a great guitarist.

then there's that pesky little guy wes claypool. how can you deny what he can do on a bass?

maynard from tool is a great vocalist imo. i like scott weiland a lot also. but i do enjoy eddie vedder, robert plant (original led zeppelin is all great)

then drummers ... man ... keith moon from the who. the drummer for rush (who's name I always forget).

this could be a big thread if enough people are into this kinda stuff

About Metallica,
There are 2 points to argue, best and touring band. No doubt they have been a huge touring band. Best band? Obviously thats an opinion, but its hard to say they aren't hugely talented. Some people hate on them because their style has changed, but if you've been playing for.... I don't even know how long... yeah, it'll change.

Flyleaf - yeah, maybe a bit of a personal fav here. I know I wasn't supposed to, but she is very talented and I'm really digging her style.

Tom Morello and Jimmy Page - VERY VERY talented. Tom has CRAZY skillz, but, it just isn't something I'd want to listen to all day every day. Jimmy is... incredible... just incredible... imo he MADE Led Zepplin. Still, guitar is a competitive category
