Meanwhile, the Florida Senate took up an issue of grave importance to national security: Truck Nutz. Yeah, you know them — those big, swinging ball sacks attached to the trailer hitches of redneck-owned pickup trucks across the state. Sen. Carey Baker (R-Eustis) proposed the legislation and recommended a $60 fine for displaying the plastic scrotum. According to the Tallahassee Democrat's story, Carey's proposal was met with criticism from both sides. Republican Sen. Jim King said (and I swear to God, this is true, per the Democrat) that he himself boasted a set of ersatz balls, which he displayed as an "expression of truckliness" on his pickup, which is, according to the senator, "all pimped out." If we take our current president as the model for a Republican executive, then a President King surely cannot be far away. Democratic Sen. Steve Geller suggested that the ban on balls was a slippery slope, and that proscribing metallic silhouettes of naked women would not be far behind. I say the state Legislature should shoot down this legislation because Truck Nutz serve as a clear demarcation of douchey motorists who will cut you off as soon as look at you — they are, in other words, a safety feature.
