My dog loved the sun during the winter time, although she was an indoor and outdoor dog, we have a fenced yard so she had the choice. I don't know the temp, I don't even know what the situation really looked like, I didn't go thru all the posts but it sounded like it was more because the dog wasn't getting any exercise since he said he always saw it tied to a bike, but the guy did have a bike so maybe it was.
The obvious looking ones.
Oh my; this thread is off to a rocky start.
I voted "undecided" because I am loath to judge the situation without having all the facts.
But I am leaning toward "no". I would have left the pair together.
I would be very leery of simply taking anyone's pet without mutual consent.
Iirc the homeless guy in the previous thread was not an obvious drunk or druggie.
So it is possible that the benefit to the guy exceeded the hardship on the dog.
Also, as a general moral principle ... humans first! I do not subscribe to the PETA or "deep ecology" mentality that places "natural" creatures ahead of humans in value and dignity. Guess I'm a human chauvinist, which is odd for a bear. cn

This is a great topic but I agree we need more facts.
First off in his OP srh stated he had seen the dog tied up to the guys bike every NIGHT, I just read the entire thread and I didn't see a post where srh said the dog baked in the sun. If so, can someone please give me a post number, I must have missed it. But if not this was an assumption someone threw out there. Who knows, during the day maybe the guy takes the dog to a shaded dog park with a water source? That dog just doesn't look in that bad of shape for the living conditions being described, mainly by others, while srh just curses everybody. There's too many holes in this story for me.
But I do want to add, srh, if that dogs conditions were that bad and he was abused then I do think you did the right thing, to a point. I believe you should have worked out a deal with the man or let the SPCA deal with it and adopt it from them. At least let the man say goodbye to his only and best friend.

The dog is being forced to live in those conditions. He'd have a better chance of survival if he wasn't being tied up to a basket in the sun.
I see how you believe dogs try much harder than people but that's not the point. My point is that I'm pretty sure the dog loves his new place and any street dog would love to be put in a new place with better living conditions.. Much like a homeless person would.
H8 said that the dog was tied up in the sun. To me, that sounds less like happy funtime sunbathing and more like suffering in the sun lol.
Have you ever worked in the sun for a real job.. like construction? The last thing you want to do is be out in the sun. H8's dog was living in the sun all day everyday. The last thing the pup wants is to be out in the sun again.
Now lets take your dog. Your dog is inside all day. It gets a little boring and everything likes to be outside in the sun when you've been indoors all day. Of course your dog will be happy in the sun.
It's like how indoor dogs will bolt out the door when it's open and an outdoor dog would bolt inside when the door is open.
Just saying that the dog probably LOVES the new ac. And I'm pretty sure the pup would choose to be inside than outside. An easy way to test that would be to put the pup outside and leave the door open. We all know what the pup would do.
