Snoop Dog is now Snoop Lion, and working on a strictly reggae album. > Song Inside <

SNOOP Dogg has officially dropped the Dogg act and upgraded his name to "Snoop Lion".

The rapper says he underwent a spiritual and artistic rebirth while in Jamaica where he was given the new moniker by Rastafarian priests.

Legally he isn't any sort of animal, of course, but must go by the name Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr.

"I want to bury Snoop Dogg, and become Snoop Lion" Mr Broadus Jr told journalists at a news conference in New York.

"I didn't know that until I went to the temple, where the High Priest asked me what my name was, and I said, 'Snoop Dogg.' And he looked me in my eyes and said, 'No more. You are the light; you are the lion.' From that moment on, it's like I had started to understand why I was there."
The 40-year-old said as a result of his reincarnation, his new album will be a reggae record as he finds rap no longer "a challenge."

“There comes a point where you say I done it all, or there isn’t much more to do,” he said. “This was like a rebirth for me.

"With no disrespect to other rappers, but they can't f--- with me in rap ... I've won every accolade you can get in rap, they call me 'Uncle Snoop' in rap. When you're an uncle, it's time to find something new ... I want to feel like a kid again."

“I have always said I was Bob Marley reincarnated. I feel I have always been a Rastafari. I just didn’t have my third eye open, but its wide open right now.”

Broadus Jr is currently working on his fifth album, Reincarnated, which is strictly a reggae project.

Song (Snoop Lion - La La La) > http://soundcloud.com/snooplion/la-la-la-snoop-lion

I'm stoked. I think this is a good direction. The song isn't great reggae but I could see him doing some killer work in the future.

sup verde!

i can see snoop getting himself an ark like lee scratch perry. mabye not drinking petrol and black currant, maybe tho!?

see what you mean about this song. i'd like to hear him go more dub and less autotune. he needs some schooling or maybe a crossover album like Nas and Junior gong ( bob marleys kid)

I think he's gotta get off the rap thing of looping samples..

the best reggae is with a live band. He needs to chill with a drumset and a keyboard and a guitar and bass or two. And then be the singer..

I think he's got a better chance of making money by continuing with the rap game. If this isn't just a gimmick.

For instance, I just read that he's in the top 5 richest rappers alive. I think money is something he isn't super concerned about.

I'm a pretty big reggae fan, and I found the song to be somewhere between "not bad" and "good."

I'll check out the rest of the album when it drops.

This has always been one of my favorite Black Uhuru songs. I'm gonna have to listen to that other version you posted.

And Verde, I'd never heard that song before, but it was great! I loved the synthesizer.

Hopefully snoop sees this thread, and gets some ideas. I always wondered if snoop grew his own.
