Confess Your Bonehead Mistakes in MJ Growing

Ok, I'll start. I may not have done anything so dumb (yet) to ruin a whole grow, but I just did something pretty damn stupid .

As I was getting out the Sweet Deep Grapefruit seeds from the breeders vial, I dropped the whole thing and all 5 seeds dove into the carpet. None were visible to my naked eye . So I get down on the seed-colored carpet and crawl around on my knees in search of rescuing said Grapefruit seeds. I found one. After being on my knees for 20 minutes and sweating, I start to feel like it's a lost cause . I paid good money for those beans.

So I then get out the hand vacuum, spend another 5 minutes mashing the front end of the hand vacuum into the carpet by the suspected area of seed droppage. I picked out all of the container-crud in search of the seeds...nothing . Nothing but hairballs from my dog.

So I get the upright vacuum cleaner, clean it out, and hope that I will be able to find the seeds after I vacuum again. Ok, I get back 1 more seed, but that's it. So the rest is a goner. I'm contemplating watering the carpet area so that perhaps they will germinate in said carpet. I'll be careful though. I will make sure the pH is good.

Also, when I plugged in the vacuum cleaner and turned it on, the 400w MH bulb blew out. Ok, now I'm really pissed at myself. I kept plugging and unplugging the light in 10 minute intervals, since the unit delays the light for 10 minutes after being unplugged or turned off. The bulb flickers on and off for 20 minutes, then goes out again. I took the bulb out to see or hear if the filament had been blown or something, but it all looks intact. So I retrieved my 600w ballast and light, and replaced the 400w with the 600w MH.

I then take the 400w back to my room and test it, and she fires right up! WTF! By now, the 600 is cooking up my grow room, so I decide to bring the 400w back and hang it over my plants. It's now 3 hours later, and the 400w MH bulb starts to flicker, but not like before. It went 25 minutes without a flicker, then it did it again.

I have been checking the light bulb in its socket, and it is tight. Anyway, I still don't know what's up with it, and tomorrow the hydro shop is closed, and I don't have a backup 400wMH bulb.

Moral of story: Never handle seeds near seed color carpet.
