here in ohio anything less than 100 grams is only suppose to be 100$ fine no jail time and no probation.

In Ann Arbor michigan, were university of michigan is i think n anything less than an ounce is like a joke of a 5 dollar ticket.

Visit Marijuana Law Reform - NORML in order to find your states laws. Don't listen to anyone else but an authoritative source - it is, after all, your freedom that is on the line. A fair warning however, some of those laws are outdated.

As far as Alaska, Medical Marijuana is legal, but recreational marijuana is so tolerated - it is practically legal. Of course, an officer will search you for it, pull you over for it, and of course give you a hard time, but it's very likely he will let you off with some leniency if your being respectful, and safe with the herb (Your 2 best bets in any encounter w/ a LEO). Then again, that is only from experience with 2 run-ins with LEOs, both times they let me off, but I plan to never have a 3rd.
