(Deep breath in) No, these are not even close to similar. You have an interesting mix of things that are supposed to correspond to me choosing an internet carrier, so I can't really generalize with one counter point, so will do them all individually.
It's exactly like buying crappy toys from China. If you dont want them, dont buy them. That one was easy. Same goes with the teflon pans. As far as the quarter slots and smoking... well I have no idea what that is all about. But I choose not to gamble quarter slots and smoke, just as I would choose not to have a cable company that filtered searches. I think the big difference there is that gambling and cigarettes are addicting, and even though some people want to quit using them, they simply cant. Fake oversea emails??? WTF??? I mean, what?? How..does this...huh? And have you been to Wal-Mart? It's as name brand as you get and everything in that place is cheaper than shit. That's why they are Wal-mart, because they have name brand merchandise for very cheap. People like name brands because they have a name for a reason. They provided a consistant product for a long enough period of time that people know the names.
The simple fact is that if At&T filtered my search, I would call up Time Warner, Road Runner, Covad, Speakeasy...shit AOL, anyone that would not. if AT&T does do this, they will be marketing schools, businesses, churches, military, things like this, the average home consumer will always have other options.

You missed the point man. We're not talking about you. If you're on this website it doesn't apply to you. It applies to the millions of people every day that just log on to check their e-mail or play fantasy football. Do you think they care if their internet gets filtered? The things that are being filtered, they don't access and wouldn't know how to even if they wanted to. There are so many people out there like that and that alone is enough to sway in at&t's favor and they know it. My analogies make perfect sense. They all come back to consumer ignorance. Or maybe consumer indifference. Either way, it's the first step in the wrong direction.

I didnt miss any points. We just disagree on a very basic point that the America public will tolerate a filtered internet. I tend to think they arent quite as stupid as you make them out to be. Those who like the idea of filtering will of course go that route, the vast majority of people who don't want filtering will go the other route. I mean, business' don't even filter the internet in China, and they're communist. I can guarantee you that I will never in my life use an internet connection that is filtered, unless it is done so by the government themselves.

That said....Americans wont tolerate their internet being censored.....Unless they throw the word "terrorist threat" in there somewhere.

We all know...anything's possible then.

I have heard that they will have to offer filtered and unfiltered choices by law.
This will however make anyone choosing unfiltered a prime target for investigation.
All i can see is a load of new net providers popping up offering unfiltered content.
I have also heard that until they can sort out the speed issues of filtered content its a no go in most areas except those offering 24mb lines

I've been thinking about selling my TV. Aside from the History/Discovery channel there is nothing worthwhile. Most TV new cites are just propaganda anyways. Oh, how I would miss good old Fox News (rolls eyes)....

man I got that shit that records TV shows all day, so I pretty much just watch the same 7 shows :P, I'm adding that new show on the discovery channle, that looks like a ripoff of the mythbusters :P
