In Dutch we call them Smartshops, I first didn't know what Headshops were either.

Headshop is more of the slang term. You probably won't hear the owners call them that. Usually they're given the name novelty stores, or smoke shops (the ones that sell tobacco at least). Out on the islands near me, there is a corner store grocery even that sells pipes.
