I've had many an open discussion with my daughter, she's almost 20 now. I've always been very honest with her about MJ. She doesn't drink or smoke weed though she has tried both. I told her that if she ever chose to use a substance that I hoped it would be MJ.
My step daughter is a different story though, she's 14 and for some reason I have been 'sheltering' her. Well the other night she came out to my shop to offer me some Jo Jos and ranch dip. What she walked into though was dad having a 'safety meeting' with my pretty blue swirly bong, pink floyd on the stereo and a High Times magazine. I tried to play it cool and hide the bong but after saying no thanks to the jojos she started heading back into the house. At that point this voice in my head said "What the fuck are you doing?" So I went and had a little talk with her about medical marijuana and marijuana in general. I finished the conversation by telling her that if I ever caught her pinching my stash I'd put my foot so far up her ass that she'd be tasting tread for a month. We finnished our talk with a hug and a couple I love yous.

im 19 and i go to a local community college and still live at home. my dad knows i smoke. and i know he smokes. and we both know each other knows. funny thing is we've never talked about it. but with my girlfriends family, ive smoked with everyone in here family.

I'm 20 living outta home, my Dad and mam know I smoke, my dad doesn#t smoke but he doesn't mind it's my choice, My mam is cool too in fact i have her smoking a bit now only cause it helps kill the pain for her artritus the pain killers they had her on were making her loopy then one day I said ya know what mam "try this" and she did and never felt better...unfortunutly in Ireland were a long way from MJ or medical MJ bein accepted

Hey Sk3tch3, my use of the term pot head is purely tongue in cheek. I use that and the term dope fiend to illustrate the ridiculousness of stereotyping any member of society. When I talked to my older daughter and expressed my belief that marijuana is a better choice over alcohol I also added the caveat "Just don't have sex with black jazz musicians." both of us knowing full well that a jazz musician of any color is of no threat to society. I have friends of many different ethnicities, some of them are pot heads and some are not, I love them all.

I think it's also very cool to see the young people being honest with their parents. This is great and goes a long way to furthering the cause of honest education and awareness! I did not have that luxury back in the day. My mother had already dis-owned my older sister when I started partaking. When my mom finally did find out about it there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth (mostly from her) "OH my sweet baby boy is a dope fiend!" Yeah, fun times...
