Im sure many older people here on riu would remember Jimmy Carter saying "I support a change in law to end federal criminal penalties for possession of up to one ounce of marijuana, leaving the states free to adopt whatever laws they wish concerning marijuana" in 1977. It seemed as if marijuana had really jumped into the culture in that time, and the right people were finally calling bullshit. About time, right?
Wrong. Whats the first thing that went wrong? Pressure groups that were created against the new drug culture, usually some pissed off moms or something. The next? multiple busts of suspected headshops out of the blue. But what was the worst thing that happened to this amazing tolerance of the people? Dr. Peter Borne, Jimmy Carter's chief drug policy advisor. This guy fucked it up bad for all of us. A cheif drug policy advisor, and what did he do? If you guessed cocaine, spot on. The press went nuts over it, and Carter definetely couldn't appear soft on drugs anymore. Too bad our herb is considered a drug, peace out decriminalization. After that we had Reagen and his "just say no" wife, George Bush, Bill Clinton, George Bush, and now Obama. None of them, especially both the Bushs and Reagen, ever even thought about federal decriminalization, instead they fought it. I'm still waiting to see if Obama's ever going to do anything. Well, any thoughts? Toke it up ![]()
