Really want to try hot water! Unfortunately I just finished scrapping and smoking the last bit of resin from my bowl... and I am broke until Friday!
Duh, Cold water is obviously the best.
Damn... Hot water is the shit!
As long as it's in the bong, who cares?
Maybe I'm just crazy, or maybe my tastes are eccentric, but I really just prefer hot water in my bong compared to icy cold water. My reasons are thus:
1. The warm hit soothes my throat humidifier style, providing a more mellow feeling hit.
2. The higher temperature of the smoke actually seems to aid the size of the rip, instead of impede it as every one seems to think.
3. You can make refreshing teas, like chamomile, peppermint, or whatever other delicious flavor. Not only does this taste awesome, mint tea can help your throat if you are sick.
4. Most importantly: FLAVOR! just try the bong with really hot water with the best tasting weed, you'll see what I'm sayin.
Now, without, speak up on why I'm crazy, what your favourite method is, or if you tried this just cause (especially the tea) and wanted to agree...

wow im gonna try this next time i pack a fat bowl in my bong
wow i just tried this and must say I definitely love it!
Hot water bong rips are the best when you're feeling sick.
Cold water makes harsh nasty tasting hits in my experiences. I like suspended ice though, some bongs are specially made for this purpose, and they're awesome!
Otherwise just room temperature water, usually.

here's how I think it works . .
cold = most compressed smoke, most smoke.
hot = smoothest smoke, most filtered due to the higher temp of the water and increased solubility of carcinogens and bad shit.
eh, it would probably be room temp or slightly above room temp before dropping a little bit (depending on how much ice you put in that.) don't really see the point of putting ice in hot water.
