whats hemp?

so i was just talking to a guy about gas prices, and he was saying that "they" have them by the "balls". when i told him that the diesel engine was invented by a german cat and rand it on peanut oil he was confused. then i told him henry ford built the first model T out of hemp products and ran on a hemp oil fuel, he said, "whats hemp". i kindly explained what it was from, and with simple research he could find a whole but load of uses for the stuff, he asked why it was illegal then and i told him because of Mr Hearst and dupont. I then stated that in 1936 Popular Mechanics Magazine released an article called Hemp: the billion dollar cash crop. then in 1937 it became illegal. what is hemp? any comments?

The marijuana we smoke today is the "hemp" they use to smoke back in the day it was less potent.

umm. i know what hemp is. the guy i was talking to didnt. thats my point. i was under the impression that everyone know what it was. i learned about it in school for crying out loud.
