How do you pronounce aluminium?

Actually, it's spelled aluminium in Britain and most other English speaking countries.Sir Humphrey, who named it, first spelled it 'aluminium'. Then he changed it to 'aluminum', but changed it back to 'aluminium' because that was what other British scientists preferred. In America, scientists agreed with the British, but the Noah Webster’s Dictionary of 1828 spelled it aluminum. That's how it came to be pronounced and spelled the way it is in th US.

."Al-you-men-e-um". We pronounce it "uh-loom-a-num". They pronounce patriotic "Pat-tree-ot-ick". We pronounce it "pay-tree-ot-ick". We pronounce master flow valve "mas-ter-flow-valve". The Chinese pronouce it "mo-ass-fo-wowlve" What are some other differences in the way we pronounce things and others from lesser lands pronounce them?

Great Post. id +rep you but its all used up i think. Yeah i live in ireland hence the al-u-min-e-um. i cant think of any other words which are pronounced differently. I know you guys in the us say jelly instead of jam.
over here your jello is called jam. So when I was younger watching sesame street and everyone was eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches i thought they were eating very funky sandwiches.

a lew min um.

Answering your last question DWR, I don't about other people but I say caramel (carmel some places) kare uh mell.

Aluminium is the English spelling so I pronounce it the English way al·you·MINNY·um

The American spelling is aluminum and is pronounced al·OO·min·um.

The English spelling is more consistent with the names of the other elements (sodIUM, calcIUM, lithIUM, magnesIUM, etc).

Holy Fecking Shit. I learned something new again. I would change just one thing. a*LOO*min*um

Never been to science class at a large university eh? All the foreign professors say it that way. And I noticed a couple of my Indian teachers pronouncing the word (development) dee-vel-up-ment as dev-lap-ment
