YUBA CITY, Calif. (AP) - The Yuba County sheriff's office says state and local authorities have destroyed thousands of marijuana plants in the county's largest pot bust ever.

More than 11,000 marijuana plants found near Bullards Bar Reservoir were ripped out of the ground Tuesday after they were spotted from the air by a state Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement pilot.

Law enforcement officials say the plants were hidden under manzanita trees.

Authorities buried plants found with buds in an undisclosed landfill and left the stems and leaves of plants without buds to rot at the site of the garden.

Yuba County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Melanie Oakes says the previous county record was about 8,000 plants.
