So what do you all think of this 600 watt HPS system from HTG?

http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=48956

I would go with the QuadRay reflector, and the Sunmaster 600 watt HPS bulb.

Eventually I will get the MH conversion bulb for my next round. I plan to grow one plant of each of these three strains, for a total (obviously) of three plants.

I want to veg them to about 18-24" with the goal of getting 2-3 ounces per plant dried, for a total of 6-9 ounces per three plant crop. Is this system capable of achieving my goals? Are they realistic?

Please speak from experience or knowledge please, not just guesses or secondhand information. Thanks in advance!

That might be a bit optimistic dry weight to end up with if this is the first time your growing.

Generally, sticking a light above some plants is the first thing your gonna do, but you have to make sure everything else is in check too. If you look at folks that are growing for a few years or getting good yields compared to the other guys, they use a sealed room, dehumidifier, ac or intake/exhaust fans, co2, nutes, mh for veg and hps for flower.
Yea that light system is fine, but just getting a light system is pretty basic, it's everything else that is gonna make your grow. You don't absolutely need an ac unit or co2. But you can probably see what I mean.

Rudiger has a point... as far as the 600watt hps system on HTG... it is for an 8sq ft room or less.. you can grow with this system from start to finish without any problems... but if you want ultimate bud production then check out this grow light

i just orderd a 150w HPS from them.. i hear they are good to deal with

EDIT: are you growing soil or hydro

also dont forget to get nutes

Ok let me be more detailed.

I will use fox farm of soil and grow big for veg along with a small amount of superthrive. Tiger bloom for flowering.

I will have a 4" inline fan at the bottom right corner of my grow tent. A 6" inline fan with carbon scrubber mounted in the top left corner. 6" ducting all hooked up to cycle the hot air of the lights. I would also purchase a dehumid.

I plan on adding the mh conversion bulb and veggin with it after the seedling get a couple weeks of 6500k cfls to get strong for the mh.

I also plan on foliar feeding the plants with grow big and superthrive while in veg, as I have gotten good results with that.

This will all be for the flowering phase of my current grow, with the seeds mentioned above for my next full grow, to be vegged with mh as opposed to the cfls I am using now. Any further thoughts?

u do realize if u get the seeds from that site, thats fine and dandy, but u have to understand that ur plants will never look as good as those ones do, unless ur a magic man, or a really really really really good grower!!

Stay tuned. We'll find out :leaf:

your set up sounds pretty good. a couple of thoughts.

it wasn't clear to me if you wanted to run your ducting to cool the light. if so, you need an aircooled hood. i would get one anyway as you're likely to need it to cool the room.

your yield estimates are too high for the size of plant you're growing. my guess would be less than an ounce per plant. if you veg them to half their projected height you will increase the yields.

you can skip the cfl step if you keep the mh light far enough away from the young plants.

A hood like this?

How big would I need to veg the plants to get 2-3 ozs per plant with the 600 watt setup?

yes, the hood looks good.

first a warning about yield - no one can tell you what you're going to get because it depends on so many factors that can go wrong.

i can answer the question, "what would an experienced grower yield assuming a perfect grow and conditions.

i misread your post and see that you're vegging to 24", thought you were looking at that as the final height. that's big enough but consider the following.

i looked up white widow and it's supposed to yield 1 pound per meter squared of grow area, assuming you've filled out the grow area. you'll be using about a third of that grow space, so about 5 ounces per 3 plants for an experienced grower.

you'll have to beat the average experienced grower to get 2 ounces per plant but it can be done.

Well I am not an experienceds grower. I seem to have a green thumb however.

So we will see. Even if I got on oz per plant at that height I wouldn't die :)

Would you checl out my current grow? Look back a page or two there are new pics. Plus two females just showed pistils!
