What neuroscientists say is that the mind is a construct of the brain. Damage the brain and you damage that construct. There are no cases of a damaged mind effecting the brain. A person can be mentally abused all their life and still show a healthy brain function. Cause precedes effect, and cause is always on the side of the brain while effect is on the side of the mind. Studies so far show brain firing happening prior to awareness of a subjective state. A dead or deeply comatose brain has no mind. Damage or alteration to the brain can change your sexual identity, your moral decision making, your personality, your ability to even think about the world. Patients with non-dominant hemisphere strokes often have what is called neglect; they do not know that the left half of the world even exists. There is no model inside their brain for the left half of their body or the world, so they cannot even think about it.
