CBD Skunk Haze (DWC) & Critical (soil) Journal
:leaf:----------------------------------------------------------------:leaf:

Welcome everyone to my grow journal! I was suggested to start a journal by a kind hearted individual on this forum and so I shall commence. Since originally I had no intentions on creating one we are going to jump to present day. But do not fear you did not miss out everyone knows that the germination is the slowest part. I bought a CBD Skunk haze fem (breeder CBD Crew) from Herbies to try and make some Rick Simpson oil. I do not have cancer or a terminal disease which I am thankful. But I do suffer from anxiety and want to see if the CBD oil will calm my nerves. With my purchase I received 1 royal queen critical freebie as well as 2x skunk haze regular which I do not plan on germinating.

Fast forward >>... Stop... ok.. Play
Day 16 Beginning of week 3

So after a brief bump in the road in the form of some lower leaf yellowing I believe i'm good to go! My CBD Skunk Haze is in a Hydro setup, DWC to be specific. While the freebie/fallback Critical will be in a 5 gallon soil tote. The reason I don't seem so excited about the critical is because contrary to many peoples beliefs Indica's max out my anxiety personally, while Sativa's make me feel uplifted and creative filled with positive energies. Plus I don't smoke much marijuana maybe once a week so I have no real use for it. I might make some oil out of it as well, but do not know how my body will react... I'm getting ahead of myself there is a long time before I need to make that decision.

SETUP
*Closet Grow 5 feet vertical clearance
*walls lined with emergency blankets haha... what is this Mylar you speak of..kidding ( a dollar each at Dollarama). Two did the closet can't beat it on a budget and that stuff was designed to reflect light.
*300w 9 band led will edit in the spectrum's I have an additional 180w led which will be used as side lighting during flower.
Room temp. Consistantly 70 - 80f air conditioner ensures it does not past 80. RH 70% although I have a dehumidifier which will be present throughout flower.
CBD Skunk Haze DWC 5 gal

2.5 gal. Tap water
1tsp (magi-cal)
10ml (jungle juice part A)
10ml (jungle juice part B)
1/2 tsp (super thrive)
10ml (hydrogen peroxide)

My tap water was 150 (well 148 but I rounded up). And finished at 515.
515-150=365
Therefore, my solution is 365 ppm. Hopefully she can take that it seems like a lot more than my 280 ppm in my filtered water lol.

Ph 5.5
Tds 514ppm

RQ Critical 5 Gal soil Tote

SOIL --> No clue I bought it from my hydro store some type of premium soil I will find out what it was the next time I go in lol.
NUTRIENTS --> Nothing as of yet I am going to wait until I see her get hungry before I start to feed as I always tend to burn in soil during veg.

WATER--> I watered the Critical 5 days ago pH'd to 6.5 and she is still damp.

So here are a couple of pictures.. forgive me they are from my phone and under my led's but it's late and I work in the morning. I will pull out the Nikon and take some real pictures shortly.

Let me know if I missed anything. I look forward to the company

ONE LOVE,

Day 17:hump:
So I got home from work and checked on the girls. They look fine the critical
(soil) is doing her thing I'm not worried about her at all! She had a slow start that is why she is smaller. Although I have no doubt she will pass my Skunk haze in growth by next week unfortunately. :wall:

The reason the Critcal had a slow start was was was.....(fading into a flash back)

I ripped open my package sent received via royal air by Herbie's head-shop put them both into a shot glass of water and into a warm dark place on the 12th of June. Sat on the computer for the remainder of the evening reading CBD Crews website testimonials and googling information about the strain I was super excited for in anticipation of getting this strain on the go.

June 13th (24 hrs later)
I checked on my little darlings and to my infinite satisfaction my Skunk has was born! The critical had not opened yet but I wasn't the least concerned. So I transplanted the Skunk haze into some rockwool pH'd to 5.5, and placed the shot glass and critical back into they're hiding place.

June 15th (72 hrs later)
After thinking about my past failure with bag seed in DWC. I figured it would be best if I had some sort of insurance in case my hydro re attempt failed. I would have a runner up in traditional soil as it is less time consuming and generally easier IMO. I could throw it in along side my hydro. With this thought I began to become concerned that the critical still hadn't opened. I took the shot glass out and examined the seed I realized that at the bottom of the seed there was some sort of chalice. I wish I had a picture; a defect in the seed right on the crack line. (the line on the seed that splits open). It looked like a seed with two top parts to it. Anyways, I figured that this deformity was stopping the sprout from opening the seed. So I got out a magnifying glass and a scalpel popped the blade in the crease and carefully cut and sand the seed until i manually cracked (a hair line crack) Not straight open! Then put it back in the water ...

June 16th (96 hrs in)
Checked on the seed hoping I didn't Butcher my free seed. To my surprise there was a 1/4 cm tap root popping out although I had clearly cut the tip off the tap root by accident. Oh well I thought "I'm going for broke" and transplanted the seed in a peat puck. Next day I had a very very tiny stressed Sprout:weed:. So it started out late started out slow and retarded looking but, it has been recovering at a rapid rate. I am impressed at the genetics given the start it had it was trying to live but was trapped. I cut him free and that little war amps fella just grew and grew..

Ok back to the present

The skunk haze which has been counseled by numerous people has continued to yellow although it isn't at an alarming rate. But I can see the yellowing slowly creeping onto the second set of leaves this is a trend that needs to stop.

My Ph went from 5.5 to 5.9 from yesterday to today, and my ppm went from 567 which was a reading I had taken from a sample yesterday in a glass and re tested today as reference to the 516ppm reading from my res. today. The water in my res. is concerning me. One day after I had changed to tap water. My res. solution has turned cloudy! As well as the fact that I noticed a kind of clear gel hanging from the tip of the roots.. Looks sort of like that clear mucous you get come out of your noise on a cold day. Wonder what that could be, but it cannot be good! :cuss:Should I add peroxide to sanitize the tank!

So I decided to deal with my problem, in regards to my skunk haze dwc. I soaked my rockwool roots in a solution of tap water and 30ml/gal h202 draining it over and over multiple times until the roots were cleansed. PH'd to 5.6. I also filled my 5gal bucket over filling with boiling water to sanitize my res. That took me two hours so I hope it cleansed my bucket. I then remade my solution:
1 Tsp "magical"
10ml jungle juice part A
10ml jungle juice part B
and 10 ml/gal hydrogen peroxide (2.5 gal res.)
PH'd to 5.7
Solution was 500ppm

Hoping it will make a difference in eliminating the clear slime I have seen growing on my roots. I also significantly cleaned out my air stones.

My plant looks good it is yellowing on the lower leaves but not at a significant rate. The majority of the plant is healthy green and the leaves feel soft and pliable. I feel as though I caught this problem early enough. I am hoping it will diminish the spread of the chlorosis. I guess time will tell.

On the bright side my Critical in soil is doing better than I could ask for. No yellowing, no flaws. Just solid green soft healthy leaves. I wish it was that easy for DWC. I haven't fertilized or watered yet. *(besides the watering I gave miss critical a week ago. Should I be concerned about drainage as I watered the plant a week ago and it is still moist?

Regardless, I couldn't ask for better in my soil department.

I feel alone in this thread someone give me some motha flucking motivation lmao.
I will upload decent pictures soon.

P.s. I forgot to note the first time I drained my rock wool (I did so more than once) my drainage read 6.6 which is way to high for hydro so I assume that this is what was causeing the lowering but I believe I fixed this problem lowering it to 5.7.

DAY 19:hump:

For some reason it will not allow me to edit my previous post;
"P.s. I forgot to note the first time I drained my rock wool (I did so more than once) my drainage read 6.6 which is way to high for hydro so I assume that this is what was causeing the lowering but I believe I fixed this problem lowering it to 5.7."

I meant to say I was noticing the yellowing in my lower leaves continuing after numerous attempts to fix this problem. I noticed there was also some sort of bacterial growth coming from my roots. As well as the roots were not looking as healthy as I would have liked them to be. So I filled a pot with a water and hydrogen peroxide mix at a ratio of 1gal : 30 ml. Submerging the whole net pot in the solution and once soaked thoroughly I lifted the net pot out and let the rock wool drain back into this pot I repeated this step about 10 - 15 times and then measured the run off. Once read it came up as 6.6 that was 1.1 points on the pH scale higher than my original water. Meaning, my net pot was far away from being in the desired range of 5.5 - 5.8.

So I emptied the water in the pot and remade a new solution of 5.5 H2O2/H2O mix.

Repeating the same process dunking the net pot in the readjusted solution 10 -15 times, the reading then moved down to 5.7 seeing as how it was in my desired range I decided it was best to stop there. As I had already moved the pH of my grow medium more than a complete pH point. When you are advised to only raise or lower never more than 0.5 pts. in a 24 hour period. Seeing how I was already seeing signs of lock out I did not want to wait 48 hours to move my medium down as everyday at that pH point was further locking out my plant I figured they might get damaged if I move the pH to right position in one move.

But, I would definitely cause damage to my plant if I wait as I am not in taking the right nutrients consistently. Not to mention my rock wool medium was reading 6.6. But my reservoirs nutrient solution was 5.7. So there was a constant clash in pH in my set up. To disinfect the reservoir (as I was noticing foam / clear jelly on my roots) I just brought the kettle to a boil and repeatedly poured it into my emptied reservoir bucket until all 5 gallons was filled with scalding hot water. One of my air stones couldn't take the heat and broke apart, turned into what looked like kitty litter! o_O
Oh well if it means a sanitary bucket I can loose one airstone. Ok so that was an extended explanation of my previous P.S.'d posting.

I am going to add pictures tonight updated and hi def out of the led hues.

Well here are those photos of my progress so far..
There are some issues with my CBD SkunkHaze. There is minor spot chlorosis and the first set of leaves yellowing. Although, I am pretty sure the yellowing is done and what remains yellow will never be fixed. Although I am not entirely sure.

With the Royal Queen Critical seed it is clearly vibrant and healthy although I took pictures under 2700k cfl so there is a minor yellow hue admitted. In the photos you can see the wonky growth which is a result of me opening the seed with a scalpel. But if I had not the seed would have never germinated because it was genetically fused shut. I believe the cut I made may have cause the plant to top itself after the second set of leaves. I am not 100% sure yet. Time will tell.

I just changed my reservoir over to the "lucas formula" at 1/2 strength of the cfl version
5Micro to 10Bloom @ 2 gallons tap water. PPMS at 440.

I just invested in leds and I'm happy to get some nice plants growing. How do you like using them? They look good man. I cancelled my dwc cause of root rot. Now I have healthy plants.

Wow I gave up on this journal because I thought people could care less. Thanks for poppin in buying leds was the best decision I made when it came to my set up and I don't understand all the bad ridicule it gets from the hps/mh users. See my avatar that is over 2 ounces on an afghan kush 2 week veg with my first 180w led chinese ebay knock off.

Cost me 130 dollars and it paid for itself two times over in one plant. I was convinced, and bought another 300w ebay led that is so much more intense than my original 180. I am excited to flower. Unfortunately, I fell into the same fate as you I ended up vegging my skunk haze to 2 ft because it would grow roots get a bout of root rot all the roots would die I would address the problem; it would grow roots then die, repeat. I got fed up because I needed healthy roots to switch to flower and produce good bud. So I cut three clones and cut it down R.I.P mother SKHaze :finger:.

Anyways so now all three have rooted and has been starting to grow again this time in soil because DWC has pissed me off. So its been nearly two months next week and I should have been nearly half way through flower. But optimistically thinking I had one skunk haze plant now I have THREE:weed::hump:.

If everything goes as planned and I am not plagued by some sort of set back I will be going into flower next saturday so seven days! My critical mutant topped herself with out me cutting anything and after suffering from over watering that yellowed her leaves and stunted her growth has now recovered and growing beautifully.

Sorry to rant but I haven't had a visitor in a while and well.. you asked.
Here are some photos.

I paid 630 dollars for my 3 leds 1-600w and 2-400w. They have 3 year warranty so there really wasn't anything I could lose. I'm glad this forum exist. I had major root rot issues and decide to start with new genetics. So I'm just starting a perpetual harvest. I might even run my 1000w only 6-8 hours a day.

Thanks Pink,
yeah I had completed a few dwc's before but god knows this time around I was walking into walls :wall: . Decided to clone and convert to soil as my critical was the only thing still doing well. That was about a week and a half ago and I will be go into flower come sunday night.. hell or high water. But the clones are doing fantastic for a week old. When I cloned I cloned em at 3 inches cause thats all I could selvage of that botched dwc attempt. I didn't even think any would root but sure enough all three rooted:hump:.

Ill add some pictures so you can see my progress... I use that word lightly since I should be mid flower. But atleast I have three little girls.

*Update* August 25th 14

S
o I am now in the first week of flower today being the first full day since I have seen pistils so I am starting my flowering date today. Funny thing is that the clones are the ones which have gone into flower. Those skunk hazes couldn't wait to bloom. On the other hand the royal queen critical got beat up a bit and is now recovering. I got over zelous with the nutes cause for a while she was handling it then i pushed to far. I then flushed hard and didn't replenish enough nutrients so it started to show mag def. I panicked and without thinking clearly mixed up a foliar spray to add some quick nutes and burned her pretty good, anyways after reflushing and setting my nutrients properly I have seen the leaves perk up and the new growth coming in just swell.

So that has set her back a bit.
So she is in recovery mode and not ready to throw out pistils, weird enough I am happy about that because the skunk haze is a 10 week strain while the critical is 8. So I have a couple weeks of recovery and if it start flowering by next sunday then I can harvest both strains at the same time.:bigjoint: Saves me finding a place to dry the critical while the hazes finish up. I can just pull the critical at 9 weeks when the hazes are at week 10 and dry them at the same time two nugs one bowl lol.

So the clones have done so well I can't believe it. 3 weeks ago I was devistated when phythium destroyed my skunk haze mother in hydro. My desperate last resort plan couldn't have worked better now I have three clones one 17", 13" , and 10" inches. In two weeks growth since roots. I topped the 13 inch plant when i first say roots pop and I am happy I had done that. I think I will get more of this set of clones than i would have with that troubled mother.

Here are some pictures from yesterday the 24th. First official week flower.
