Yes another shroom thread

Okay so my first 4 BRF Cakes worked all four flushes finished within a little over 2 months. Not THAT bad.

I have took 3 of the grow bags that were fully colonized with Penis Envy Strain, and put them in a Mono Tub that was made with 1 Brick Coir, and about 2 Quarts or so of Vermiculite placed in a bucket then 4-5 Quarts of Boiling Water added from the stove. Let sit for few hours then mix. Then place in tub save a bit for a top layer.

Then I crumbled up the 3 Grow Bag "cakes" I had, and mixed with the Coir/Verm mixture, then I placed the rest of the left over Coir/Verm mixture evenly on top to cover the spawn so none is shown. I've noticed a little white on top in one spot..It's been 4 days now when should I notice mushrooms?

Also notice the cakes all 5 were fully colonized at 3-4weeks, and it's now about 6 weeks almost 7 weeks, and no pins, no nothing. What's going on?!?!?!

I've also had a friend that's inoculated around 10 rye berry grow bags can these be fruited in the bags he wants to know, or does he need to spawn to a Mono Tub like I have done. As I had told him I read somewhere people saying mushrooms can not grow on rye berries, I could have been reading false information though.

Thank You.

First off, nice work with the initial success you've had. Honestly, at this point, I like growing mushrooms more than growing green in a lot of ways.

I think you made a good choice with the coir tek. I do my mushroom runs very similarly except I only use 1 quart of verm (I think 2 quarts is too much) and only use 4 quarts of water. In my experience you are better off a little dry than a little wet. Then again, that extra quart of verm you are using probably sucks a good bit of it up. I also use 5 quarts grain spawn. Either popcorn or rye depending on whether I've made it over to the health food store or not lately.

One tip, 10 days is never enough for me to colonize a tub using this tek. It is usually more like 12-14 until I feel it is ready to fruit.

I have no idea why your other cakes aren't pinning, but if they've been in the fruiting chamber 6 weeks they are probably like hockey pucks by now. Try dunking and rolling and give them another week or two. When I still did cakes, I ALWAYS dunked and rolled.

Straight rye berries probably won't fruit by themselves. They will if you case them though. Your buddy if better off spawning them to some sort of substrate like you did IMO.

Thank you for the information I'll let him know.

I'm curious as to why the myco-bag cakes have not pinned yet it's been 7 weeks now, going on 8.

The cakes I used in the coir mix were 5-6 weeks along to. I took a peek at the Monotub today, and I'd say it's about 40% colonized already which is a lot considering it was about 10% the other day. It's been a week for it so far counting today I'm thinking it could be done in 10days. If not surely 14 days at the most if it continues to grow at this rate.

I've also started some ecuador (sp?) strain BRF half pint cakes. It's been a week to week and a half, and about 3 out of 6 are fully colonized with the others about 50-70%.
This is a fast colonizing strain for me!

Here it is on about day 14 now it is fully colonized. I've introduced FAE, and light the other day. I'm still having a feeling I'll be waiting a while for this tub to show pins... Photossssss 004.jpg

Looks like a very healthy mycelium mass. Nice work. Very difficult to tell by that picture, but looks like there might be some knotting going on.

PE is is a very fast colonizer (as you've seen) but it usually rests for a couple of week while consolidating before pinning.
Keep the airflow up but don't let it dry out and wait.

I have 2 other mycobag "cakes" in a chamber of penis envy that are at the same week as the ones used to spawn this tub the cakes are at like week 8 all together they were fully colonized around week 4 or so and I fruited them dunked a few times since, and still no pins that's when I decided to make this tub with 3 out of the 5 penis envy cakes.

Any idea why there are no pins on the cakes? They seem pretty far along to have no pins at all. And Thanks I'll take better pictures when I can.

It's good to see people doing compost, coir etc. I went straight to compost the first time and it worked great. This PF Tek fruiting little blocks of grain stuff is just plain stupid.

There is no reason for this PF Tek sillyness.

I still have yet to be able to spot hyphal knots I'm not really sure what to look for I've gotten mixed answers when looking up things on it.

That's kinda what I believe as well. That PF tech is for nancy boys and preacher's wives.

I noticed ONE MUSHROOM growing on the bottom of one out of the 2 Penis Envy Myco-Bag "cakes" I can't believe it's finally showing a mushrooms hopefully more will show soon and on the other one too. It's been like 8 or so weeks now Penis Envy definitely take longer, but I think it will be well worth it, as a novelty. I'm thinking I will be seeing pins, or mushrooms very soon in my mono tub now that, that cake has shown a mushroom.

I like to do PF Cakes when I'm waiting on getting more bulk substrate, spores, etc and only have a little left, and a few spores in different syringes. So why not start a bunch of pf cakes and have them in the fruiting chamber almost fruiting by the time I get the rest of the supplies to start my bulk, and by the time that's been put away to colonize I'd have completed the first few flushes of the cakes. Just keeps things busy.

I have noticed a bunch hypnal knots on the top of the substrate, and sides of the tub, as well as some small pin heads not doing much else though.
I'm hoping I'll see some mushrooms within the next week.

When should one harvest Penis Envy? I heard when it starts to "blowup" so to speak around where the stem meets the cap?

I could provide pictures if needed, but I don't think that's necessarily for such a question.

Thanks.

I really need to up my game then. I've got 48 1pint jars colonizing and 12 in the fruiting chamber. Is there any way to get a "flush" out of a bulk grow or is it a one harvest deal?

Do any of you know of a good link, youtube maybe, for a list of supplies you need and instructions on how to start a bulk grow?

Why would anybody have 60 pint jars? See this is the sort of thing I hate about PF methods, folks that use it have learned very little about the organism. I think that if you graduate to methods that parallel the actual cycles of the mushroom you will be far happier and it will be far less work.

wow -

Yes, you may get as many as 5 or 6 flushes from "bulk" (I don't know what that means really - as it seems that you are doing more bulk than anything) methods but it is best to quit at 2 or 3.

^ Yeah, it's the only way i know how to do it. And i get between 2 and 2 1/2 OZ off of 12 cakes. No, i don't know very much about the organism... the biology of cubensis mushrooms just doesn't interest me hardly as much as cannabis does. I just haven't taken the time to learn how to "bulk" grow (if that is the correct term, though i am not certain) which is why i have been sticking to PF methods, it's just been working so well for me. Though i am interested in learning different methods of growing mushrooms, i know the more i grow them the more i will inevitably be forced to research and ask questions about them.

No, i don't know much about it... but i've just started, which is why i am here asking questions. Though i really appreciate the time spent on your replies, and know that the information you share will not go to waste.

Any links would be much appreciated, videos, lists of materials, it would mean a lot bro. I've been purchasing my spores at Earths Tongue, and i really like their products. Do you have any recommendations for good deals on spores?

Thanks again mate, it means a lot Canndo, you the man.
