What is wrong with this outdoor plant?
The plant is 10 weeks old, 12” high, 10 sets of leaves (2 sets fans have dropped, another set about to drop). New growth (between initial fan leaves, and stem) is very slow.
Watered when needed (no problem there), has had a few occasional doses of “SUPERthrive” (vitamins). Soil PH is tested and is fine, good soil mix, good drainage. Fertilized with Guano 10-10-2 mix, has had 4 doses at half recommended strength (every 2 – 3 weeks). Getting plenty of sun.
Symptoms:
Slow growth with fine leaves. Leaves all ‘praying’. Bottom of plant yellowish, top green. Lowest fan leaves (over 7 day period) turn from yellowish to brown then shrivel up, dry and drop off (This has happened to 3 sets now).
I advised my mate it could be a magnesium deficiency, and to try some Epsom salts. He has given 4 doses over a 3 week period (3/4 tsp in 2lts of water), with no change in condition.
Any Suggestions?
(I am aware pics would help... I will try to get some. ...but have a go at solving the problem anyway)

Thanx
Max

I assume that the plant is not flowering yet. And you should be having some good growth now, without the dying leaves. Your feeding sounds fine, except for maybe too much Epsom Salts.

The lower node leaves are giving up their nutrients, because the plant needs them, so it could have some problem getting fed from the soil. I would flush well, and a couple of days later feed a stronger dose. Leave out the Epsom.

HTH

Thanx for the reply Potroast.
No where near flowering… no sign of any sexual organs yet. The plant looks healthy (well the top does) but growth seems very slow.
The dosages of Epsom salts were to correct suspected Mg deficiency… but still showing symptoms.

“The lower node leaves are giving up their nutrients, because the plant needs them, so it could have some problem getting fed from the soil.”

Is that because there is a soil problem? Not enough nutrients? Shit fertilizer? Nutrient lockout from something else?

Thanx

BTW: I got $670 in 5 Card Draw earlier... it didnt save my score?

That's always the case, you think it's some deficiency when it isn't, so you add something that it doesn't need, and muck things up even more. :wall:

I don't know if there's a soil problem, I just said the plant appears to be wanting more than she's getting.

Yeah... I whipped your score.

But seeing as I took so friggin long, the system probably didn't feel my score was worthy. ...either that or timed out.

but watch out! I'll be up on the board ...one day.

Yeah no more epsom salts... although from what I've read magnesium toxicity it is uncommon, so I'm confident no harm was done. I dont think the epsom salts had too much effect at all... the leaf blades are all still folded up at 90 degree angles (praying).

I may have been a little light with the fert... so the next dose will be a bit stronger.

Does anyone here have much experience with (bat) Guano?
