WTF Car radios

I swear, just like cassette tape players (and 8-track players before them), that CD players are on their way out. I had this epiphany today as I was driving home from the university. Why the fuck didn't I have a USB port in my truck I wondered as I couldn't find my cigarette port phone recharger (BTW cigarette lighters are still in cars but not USB ports, that's gross. Cigarettes and big tobacco are disgusting and make me sick, I digress)? I have my USB phone cable/recharger because I carry my laptop and can also plug in my phone if its getting low on charge. Well today I really didn't use my laptop much so no phone recharging happened.

Then it hit me, my phone was near death and I didn't have a mean to replenish its life; I still however had a CD player. WTF!?!? I haven't even placed a CD in that fucking thing for at least... I don't even remember (probably due to satellite radio and my non-iPod mp3 device). This leads me back to my original point, why not USB ports in cabin, you could use loads of data including music from a USB drive. Today most thumb drives are like what capacity, 4GB ,8GB, 16GB? That's like 5, 10, 20 times the amount of music you could fit on a CD, not to mention all the other possible data a thumb drive can hold. WTF!?!? A USB port is not that complicated of an installation why the hell haven't we came this far in vehicle compatibility?

So, basically how did we go from having cassette players at first; and then around the time time CD writers were introduced CD players pretty much made cassette players extinct overnight; but now we still have "antiquated" CDs but there is newer technology such as USB and microSD cards and such.

BTW I don't hate CDs or DVDs in fact I still use DVDs to burn all my console games (yes mods) and CDs to make compilations and backup of my music (CDs and DVDs are cheap that's the plus!!!). Why is it though, now that a better form of data storage exists (e.g. USB drives have more capacity and are much smaller than their predecessors, CDs), that the auto manufactures just don't bite the bullet and at least integrate a USB system alongside the current CD radio in with their new cars?

My after market CD player I bought to replace the one in my truck that crapped out had a plug so you could run a cable from your MP3 player, ipod, whatever. This was a few years ago too, even my cheap $30 CD boom box has that plug on it.

Yeah Right, and then the FCC will approve a legal device so you can hear what the cars beside you are listening to on the interstate. I doubt the megabytes card will ever make it into cars, probably becasue there is always spacious radio, yet not a whole ot of good to listen to on the radio. I don't have a cd player that works. I listen to the cassette mostly, better sound at high volume when driving, but there's always the stupid chipmunk speed scourge. I expect the car companies would be delving into better gas mileage in good looking cars before that happens. Though, another way for Corporate America to to take the commuter's paychecks and leave the poor in the US linting change to buy groceries. High gas prices.

Are you a fan of listening to music in your car? my trunk cd player died and i have just got a new antennae
and still I don't listen when driving. There is no rain raw power radio station yet and these broadcasters, well they're stingy. Tons of great music and lost album tracks never get played on the radio.

Both my car and work truck (2011 ford fusion sel and 2011 f150) have usb ports, axillary ports, sattilite and a CD player that never been used. While ford sync is a pain sometimes I do love it. I just hate that every single time I plug my Iphone in I have to say USB.

Well I guess I could connect via bluetooth but I haven't set it up. I'd rather charge my phone while I jam out anyhow.
