Worm bin full of bug

I was going to throw the entire contents of my worm bin into a soil cook when I noticed it had many other bugs like centipedes, millipedes and beetles, do I need to pick them out? My worm bin I just use soil from under compost pile outside, and the worms love it, but I guess so do the other creatures.

Tis all good! Other creatures also aerate and turn the contents of the worm bin....And those you mentioned are fine....although 'beetles' is a pretty broad term. You dont have anything to worry about. :)

My worm bin is outside, so im sure there are a host of residentz i dont know about which inhabit.....If the environment is sound then the wormz will alwayz rule the roost.. :)

For sure, smallish black beetles just smaller than a canna seed. But is it ok to get them mixed into my indoor grow soil?

Yes I am going to extract all my worms. I have been successful worm bining only by throwing some dirt from outside, an area wwith lots of organic matter that which for the most part is left alone and used for leaves and whatnot. Anyways I leave worms alone for months at a time and have never had a problem. I have tried plenty of other bedding materiald and dont care for them. When it comes time to harvest castings I have just been scooping off the top but it is castings throughout and im ready to start over and use this batch.

I just grab a 2 litre container full of 'goodies' straight from my worm bin.....mix that with coco, base soil and my homemade amended soil....Wormz stick around in the cannabis pots until after i rebin the soil for the next run....they are my meters for a healthy soil.

I know alot of people pluck their wormz out of the bins and actually harvest the castings.....mine keeps getting added to and subtracted in the same bin....been doing that for 3 years...i feed them when i get round to it... :)

Nice, I too leave my worms alone and completely forget about em. I guess i will just add per pot out of my casting. Gonna split my worms and make a 2nd bin too. Thanks all. Thinking about throwing up a journal in this organic section this winter. I have been busy at work the last few months building out my perpetual grow room.

What about little white bugs, if my eyesight wasnt good I wouldnt even notice them. I have them in my flowering pots right now and idk they could be causing a minor problem, or my plants are at yhe end of thier life and extremely N hungry.

Nah they are normal....for me it would be weird (and something would be wrong) if they werent there....

And you can see the little brown criterz which inhabit aswell.... (munching on coconut flour)

Hey sorry im reading old threads, I also have some bugs in an Indoor bin. It started with the small black bugs, smaller than an ant, a tiny beatle like you said. I now have these red mites , not many but seen theyre beneficial? Also have these tiny tiny white bugs thT look like the early stage of the beforekentioned black beatle.

Im sorry to say I dont enjoy bugs but dont want to dmg the eco system. @Cann was saying that the good bugs eat the bad etc and I seem to think the same? Ugly bugs tho

I have 2 live worm bins going and have no bugs other then gnats here n there but indoor that does not sound to good i mean out door is one thing indoor we add soils leafs coffee grinds Carbons etc
what ever to make a soil naturally with only worms and i guess time to make a rich soil
so yes microbes ,, worms is what i would prefer indoor i would be very concerned with mites , bugs and so on specially some place where you actually live n sleep and eat etc

Its in an unused bathroom and seriously? Makes me worried, I just read multiple people saying theyre benefical, "id be worried if I didnt have them" I read somewhere.

Just dont know what to do exactly, Ill grab worms by hand and even rinse them possibly if I had to. Bugs tweak me out, its not alot tho.

only thing the bugs are doing is breaking down the greens or matter faster nothing more its benificial microbes and worms that are of real importance

Earlier, i ended up taking most if thw worms out of my bin for a new bin and dumped everything else into my super soil mix. Just make sure your bin isnt too wet, or too much food can cause the bin to go anaerobic. If the bin smells sour, thats not good, it should smell earthy like compost. Bugs should be fine, i might be worried about the little red mites, you dont want them in your grow. Try adding crab meal to your bin, crab meal activate chitin in the soil and eats things like gnat larvae. I havnt had gnats since using crab meal. This should help cut down on the bugs. Neem seed meal is another great ammendment for pest control.

Honestly a few bugs won't hurt your plants but if you add neem seed meal to your recycling mix it will take care of them. A few creepy crawlers in your compost is actually healthy. I always keep spinosad, Monterey garden spray, on hand & neem oil...if I see anything fly or crawl I give a spritz & they be gone. Mulch the top layer of your pots & sprinkle on a layer of diatomaceous earth....thatll kill any bugs like gnats plus provide a source of silica.

This is one reason I prefer tray style worm bins over a smart pot. Airflow is important & I think the worms work faster if there's good supply of fresh O2 to respire while the wormies get to work. Even very wet castings drain excess moisture through down to the little faucet where my worm leacheate collects...very good for base teas too btw; super concentrated & highly active- makes very foamy teas when bubbled with rain water.

Would you believe I have never gotten any lechate from my tier farm. The bottom is completely open. I get a ton of air flow and my moisture levels are perfect. I don't even mist my trays anymore, the moisture from all the prepared slop keeps the moisture levels in check.

Try mosquito dunks or granulated. It works great for me. Just crumble a disk onto the soils surface and toss food on top of it. It's completely safe for worms, humans and benificial insects.
I may see 1 or 2 adults here and there.
And this shit goes a long ways. You could get away with 1/4 of a dunk.
