Wiring some CFLs (Without sockets)?

Last year when I was researching grow stuff i came across a guide for wiring up CFLs using nothing but the lights themselves and the wire. The guy like opened up the bottom of the bulb and did some crazy shit in there. Now I'm setting up for a grow, I'm too broke to buy much other than the bare essentials, and I can't find it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and where it could be?

I con't see why it couldn't be done if you're an electrician or know the workings of the inside, but I would/have used the little floodlights with the round silver reflector for about $4ea and removed the reflector, leaving just the plug.

instead of causing a fire hazard...get some sockets from walmart...cost about 2-3 bucks...and get some y adapters.ive got about 8 cfl's in my box...all the sockets and adapters was under $10.do it right and dont burn your house down...or dont do it at all..its not worth the risk unless you KNOW what your doing

if you really wanna put thoes CFLs to good use.. take out the bulb and just insert the plant into the light itself. that gives them a boost of lumens
