When you have your fill of canning , freezing , jelly'n and jam'n ............
What do you do with the excess ???
I guess what brought this question on is its once again muscadine season here in the south and im doing a little something different this round. Instead of my normal 18% ( roughly give or take ) im making brandy .
Next year everything is getting run for some kinda alcohol . I saw so much waste this year ( even though the pigs and chickens get treats out of it ) I just hate seeing things go to waste.
So any recipe's that any of you might have and be willing to share please do.
Pears, Peaches , Strawberries, Fig's, Grapes , Melons , Crab apples , Dew berries ,Blueberries, Huckleberries, Cant forget Sweet Corn i grow Kandy Korn every year

I'm in need of something to do with the extra's. It gets old standing by a stove of boiling water and its just so much easier to make wine.

18 x 3 gallon buckets of moldy top quality gooze berries just got feed to my buddies pigs, man I'm pissed as I put them aside for wine making, GGGGRRR, earlier I paid a dude to remove 200 or so red currant bushes, he deleted the wrong ones and wiped out the white currant instead, they are worth serious money >..GGRRRR

Still I got about 1000 aloe vera plants stashed away(like a drugee ...lol) that I'll whip into some cash flow ..some how, along with some unloved ferjoia trees just got them in..
its a game I play with my buddies at the market, as plants come into season besure you got some thing better
This is my 3rd strawberry season this year, using that french idea, of taking clones, grow then to bud then freezing them, I'm wanting to do that with canna too...could be onto some thing with that ...lol

Oh the Good Life ! ...lol

that excess fruit make a good addition to compost pile ...the worms love it...boosts the EWC content of the compost...the sugars also help decompose veggie matter...I would love lots of fruit for compost...the sugars also feed the soil...not counting the minerals added also...throw some shrimp or crawfish shells in there..wow....I just started growing with 100% compost with just a little peat added to retain water..and never seen my plants happier..make teas from the compost to feed and your plants will rock it

freeze your clones ?
A very large french strawberry grower, grow millions of strawberry plants every year, 1/3 goes to the freezer where they are held until post season, then these frozen strawberry plants are thawed, then grown DWC, to bud, picked and packed and the plants dumped, as modern science still cannot get strawberry plants to fruit more than once per year...this could be done with canna clones?

Nothing at all. Normally just becomes compost to help the next lot. I see it as swings and roundabouts. Sure the food isn't being eaten, but its being used. Alternatively I could do something with it, give it away, whatever, and then have to go and buy compost. Depends how you define waste, because id rather waste the fruit than my money.

So is it wasted? Now you've got plenty of filling for some tasty crow pie :) although maybe not if you live in an urban area. Crow, pigeon, squirrel, all pests for one reason or other, but all damned good eating :)
