Will this Closet Set-up work?

He's using an LED for his primary light source; I do not think his closet set up could tolerate the heat produced by a 400w HID....unless he can get an exhaust system via inline fans of some sort going from inside the closet venting to either before/while he is setting up a more permanent, larger grow space.

more light would be a definite improvement. especially during flowering. if you are on a tight budget you could consider this for flowering.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KMW7RYM/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I16MXY1M60S5MV&colid=AW7UKM9ED6GM.the HPS bulb could be replace with a 150 watt MH or CMH bulb for vegging.cheap EBAY LED's do not last long. if you drop the money on expensive LED's they will last but you may need to ad a CAL-MAG supplement. too much light can slow growth and cause fox tailing but your a long way from that point
For sure! I had to add Cal-Mag after adding just 2 400w (amazon quality) LED's to my 600w HID setup to supplement light and spectrum. As soon as I added them, bam, clear and obvious signs of calcium, then soon after magnesium deficiency. It was in late flower, but I found that cutting back on the nutes a bit and adding some Cal Mag (appeared) to resolve the issue not long after. I heard it is because of the UVA/UVB spectrum in full spectrum LED's?...

LEDs have very little UV in their spectrum. adding UV late in flowering will increase THC,CBD and other cannibals and stimulate chlorophyll and carotene production but CMH,10000k MH or fluorescent bulbs are the best way to supplement the UV, VIOLET and blue spectrum. using white LED's (bridgelux EB strips) I saw cal-mag deficiency in new plants sprouted from seed. this does not occur with HPS,MH,CMH or fluorescent lights

Looking good MadZen; a little droopy looking in one or two pics but that might just be the way they are though.
Happy Growing :)
i think you are commenting on the ones i took right after i first bent the branches down. its been doing quite well.
however, it was droopy today as i was out of town from fri night till right now.

I overwatered it on friday night hoping it might sustain, but it was droopy when i got home. So, i re-watered it and i'm just gonna wait a few hours and hopefully its perking back up. it didnt appear discolored or otherwise damaged.\

Have you considered getting a 400w mh/hps from vivosun? That where I started when I got fed up with messing cfl's. They are cheap and work really well. I'm on my cell so I haven't been able read back through the thread.
Hydroplanet™ 150W Grow Light is the most recent light purchase I made, as recommended from another poster in this thread.
I will look into the 400W though i'll likely not put more into lights right now.

If it produces more heat than the 150W then its not possible for me right now, because even that light has added a lot of heat.

EDIT:
I just purchased a roll of Mylar and a 5-gallon Smart Pot. I'm not sure if I will transfer to it now or not, but its supposedly releases heat, aerates and promotes root growth which all sounds pretty sweet to me.

Yes I would not imagine any HID being practical and efficient for you and your space...I mean you could look into the small 100-200w ones, but I'd just buy an LED like the one you did. And sorry yeah I was talking about right after you trained them. I've used those smart pots, while they're nothing to go crazy over, they do help aerate the roots a lot better when overwatered and overall, and as we all know, the more air the better...well, Im in hydro so its like that anyway, haha...sounds like you're doing great though man hope to see updates. And I would imagine that the sooner you transplant the faster the roots can begin to spread and enlarge to the size of your pot...but I haven't grown in soil for years; it's not exactly my expertise! Lol

Indeed, I am adding UVB compact bulbs on my next grow during flower for that reason specifically. I knew UVB spectrum increased potency, but what about UVA?...I've heard of it's sterilization properties like in water treatment and etc.

most of the UV from sunlight, CMH and fluorescent bulbs is UVA. this provides the most benefit to plants but must be used in small amount. no more than 5-8% of total light.plants grown in sunlight are stronger and produce a better product even without UVB. which is absorbed by the ozone layer.I use only UVA and have seen an increase in potency and yield using small amounts (5%) thru flowering. just my experience with the strains I grow. hope this is helpful.

I hear ya on the UVB, its been proven to increase potency. I'm just curious if the UVA spectrum creates the same affects (increase in trich production) as the UVB spectrum.

A visual update.

The ties are still on the ring, but I've unhooked most of the branches to let them grow up naturally now. I've mostly got the circular shape I was looking for.

I'm waiting until the plant gets to half the height I want before I flip to flower. I'm not sure how much longer I should expect to stay in Veg. I was thinking maybe 6" above my manifold branches.

EDIT: The Mylar has been installed. I am quite pleased with the increased vibrance and reflected light.

Some flicks of the current set-up. So far, I am very pleased. I've got my temps down to a steady 88' or so which is good to me. The fans have been positioned better I think and the airflow is a lot better.

At night when I turn my high power light off, I've been turning the original CFLs I was using back on. With the mylar, they supplement quite well.

I am interested in supplementing my 600w HID with LED panels and am very interested in how you have yours vertical...does it block any of the airflow/vents for blowing out hot air? Is hanging them sideways a bad idea for any reason? Looks to be working well for you. I see you got a new light, what kind?! :) Looking awesome buddy!

This is my 2nd grow, and I really want to make it better than my first.
So, my set up is
1 Mars Hydro 300W LED hanging roughly 18-20" above
2 CFL 20W in lamps 6-7" away from sprout

Using Fox Farm Ocean Forest mixed with some Perlite. Added FloraGro for the first time today, and have FloraBloom for later on. Balanced pH at 6.5. Temperature stays around 85 with 35-50% humidity. 12" inch desk fan on highest setting to maintain air flow, balance temperature and provide resistance for growth.

This is in my closet, a rather small space. The walls of the closet have white paint with some texturing.

Strain is AK-48 from Nirvana Seeds.

Yes no need for the smaller lights just lower the led or raise the pot you could do 2 with that lamp and spacealso

My set up has changed a lot since that picture. The CFLs are out, but half of the LED went out so I am using that as a secondary light now and I replaced it with a 150W HID. Look at my last picture posts for an up to date look at my set up.

Half of that panel isn't working, so I just tried to maximize the half that is.
I do have it lifted slightly to allow all the vents to work properly.

However, I wouldn't set it up like that intentionally. If the whole panel still worked I would hang it.

Wow having alot of trouble aren't ya?
It was a cheap LED, not surprised it crapped out on me.
But other than that, it hasn't been too much trouble really.

Also, I just meant the CFLs are out of my grow space now. They still work, but I only use them at night when I turn off my stronger light.

Unfortunetly that is the down side about cheaper LEDs; you sorta don't know whether or not it is as reliable as it says. But because you have been so quick to correct any problem that has arised, it seems you are having a pretty good grow despite the set backs. :) Take them with stride just like ya have been...how are your babies looking now? Probably not babies now eh? Lol :)

Nope, she is looking beautiful.
I just started the 12/12 light cycle last night, so I hope to start seeing hairs and crystals in the coming weeks.
Pictures soon.

So, I've been on 12/12 lighting for a little bit now and I haven't seen any white hairs really. Is there anything I could be doing wrong?

The plant otherwise looks pretty much perfect and healthy. I defoliated the underbrush, so that the plant will focus on my tops and I've switched my nutrients to the FloraBloom, accordingly.

Making sure you have no light leaks is obviously number one thing to have checked before going into flower, theres no leaving the door cracked open because its hot stuff going on is there?

Im curious why dont you have an exhaust on this setup? Get the heat from the grow room, to outside. How the heck can you even tolerate a bedroom @ 88 degrees?? I would be sweating continuously. 75 should be your goal, and your plants will grow to potential aswell
