If its not setting your plants on fire, then I doubt it will start your house on fire. But to be extra cautious, put your hand under it and make sure it doesnt burn the shit outta it... Your hand should be sacrificial compared to your home. Thats just my opinion though.

Ok, that title was just to draw attention, but seriously i have 10 6500 CFL like 5 inches from the plastic that over my carpet..... i had to lower the chain damn near to the ground to get them an inch from my seedlings..... i have a nice fan in there and it doesnt seem too hot but this is my first grow..... just being cautious... thanks potmonsters

If you get concerned, put something under your plants to raise them higher. This way you can adjust your lights so they don't sit too close to the floor.
