WICKR secure messaging app

There is an app called wickr that supposedly sends encrypted messages that aren't saved on any servers and are erased from the users phone after a predetermined amount of time. Have any of you tried this or think it is actually as secure as they claim? What gets me is that it imports all my contacts, even contacts i havent used on this phone and e-mail adresses i've never seen, my work e-mail etc.... I think they got this from a google plus account and only use it as a way to send invites, but it is still weird. Here is a review of the app:
