Why Do People Debate About Religion?

I despise religion. But I'd rather them talk about it than kill people about it. Most religions back in the bronze age were about how to conduct society and what made for good living. War was inevitable. Islam was a great religion back in it's day because it introduced civil rights and civilized protection for women and conquered nations adopted it with little to no fuss because great care was taken to form a chivalrous code of ethics for making war and avoiding civilian disturbance while quickly instituting and facilitating education and scientific inquiry.

After being raped and pillaged day in and day with or without a war by christians well, the rest is history. Don't get me wrong, I'm not vouching for or supporting Islam or even suggesting it's anything different. The christians did it too back in the day.

Then ya know, it became mainstream and all and everything turns to shit when it becomes popular. And the wheel keeps on turning.

I despise power and greed. Despite people through history using religion as a crutch to do evil, their main motive was always to conquer.

Why do we talk about the weather? It's gonna fucking rain either way. Your shit will get blown around. You'll complain to your friends, but it won't change a thing. Just like religion. Nothing will change talking about it. But consider this. God said that man will pass away but my word will not pass away.

That promise has stood the test of TIME!

Now EVOLUTION changes every DAY! So you either believe in something for sure or you just wonder if the next MONKEY MAN is the right one or just another COUSIN. Science is all bullshit that changes so I wouldn't talk if I was YOU.

wow your lack of scientific understanding is shocking .

evolution is a fact like other scientific facts , its just that scientists call facts theories . this can be confussing as theories in non scientific talk just means an idea or speculation . a scientific idea or speculation is called a hypothesis , a scientific fact is called a theory . scientists are just to cool to call known things facts is all .

take the gravitational theory which explains the known facts of gravity , does gravity change on a daily basis ? do things sometimes float and then appear heavy because gravity is an unstable theory of science ?

or take number theory , the scientific theory of numbers , did 1 plus 1 not equal 2 . does multiplication or division stop 1+2=2 .

evolution is understood to be a fact by anyone who cares to understand

You have a pretty weak grasp on the meaning of the word religion. A religion is a set of morals, values, and codes of conduct by which one lives their life. Mythology is a set of stories or fables that demonstrate the importance of said morals.
religion is belief and faith , belief is to hope for an unlikly event , faith is knowlegde in an impossible event .

Morals come from within , fully explain in the theory of evolution .

values are learnt behaviour , fully explained in the science of the human mind .

codes of conduct are self-evident , fully explained by the history of common law .

religion is mythology , take away the mythological god and whats left of a religion .

Wrong.. Faith is trusting your deity. I also covered this in this post

Morals come from within , fully explain in the theory of evolution .
Some do, others do not. Implying that evolution is the root of morals is nonsense. Completely following instincts awarded to us by evolution would mean that we do anything in our power for self preservation, including theft and even sometimes murdering rivals.

values are learnt behaviour , fully explained in the science of the human mind .
Societal values, especially those surrounding sexuality, are indeed learned, but they would not be what they are if religion had not ingrained these into our society. Much of these are contrary to the natural function of the human mind.

codes of conduct are self-evident , fully explained by the history of common law .
This is getting old. What is the largest source of this "common law"?

religion is mythology , take away the mythological god and whats left of a religion .
No, that's not correct. A religion does not necessarily imply belief in a deity. Someone's personal code of honor or a philosophy by which they live their life can be their religion.

Here in the west, we can debate. Out there in the backwards countries you debate anything and they'll have your head.

In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion. [Carl Sagan, 1987 CSICOP keynote address]

There are many hypotheses in science which are wrong. That's perfectly all right; they're the aperture to finding out what's right. Science is a self-correcting process. To be accepted, new ideas must survive the most rigorous standards of evidence and scrutiny. [Carl Sagan, Cosmos television series]

Hate to take a stab, but wouldnt it be funny if the hypotheses kept changing until scientists realized the bible is true? ;) Probably not likely, I know.

Sure, I know a lot of scientists believe that the bible has no facts, but surely there must be something? I mean even the famous Atheist H.G Wells wrote this...

When asked which person left the most permanent impression on history, he replied that judging a person’s greatness by historical standards:

“By this test, Jesus stands first.”

“I am a historian, I am not a believer, but I must confess as a historian that this penniless preacher from Nazareth is irrevocably the very center of history. Jesus Christ is easily the most dominant figure in all history.”

“Christ is the most unique person of history. No man can write a history of the human race without giving first and foremost place to the penniless teacher of Nazareth.”
