Why are dj short genetics so expensive?

Seems to me that people are wanting decent or extremely high quality genetics for pennies on the dollar, given that the almost guaranteed genetics/pheno are in effect.. a gift. No one has to spend the time stabilizing strains at all, but they do. That said, buy the seeds, find them cheaper elsewhere, or do it yourself - end of story.
If I were DJ Shorts, TGA, Rare Dankness, or any other brand with a good rep, I'd be charging more than they are now.... There are enough growers that are willing to pay for quality - I wouldnt cater or answer to cheapskates :/

Breeders who actually stabilize strains are few and far between it seems.

There's 2 specific breeders on RIU that although I have not ordered from yet, will definitely be on the top of my list come showtime - without question.

theres a perfect window of how long a certain breeding program should and shouldn't take, dont breed enough times product will not be uniform, breed too many times your wasting your time and possibly risking the incorrect replication of the same strain that you released a year ago. too many breeders are taking shortcuts, there are two examples, not breeding enough times and pollen chucking what they seem to think is a stabilized strain rather than keeping moms of the correct generation, this is not for me to say which generation should be cloned and mommed off, but it is for me to say that people that dont save moms and have been releasing the same strain for years making f1 f2 f3 f4 f5 f6 f7 etc. year after year are releasing an inferior product

the only exception being heirloom landrace sativas that do this naturally, they can be the exception because their is no foreign genetics and diversity only 100% what nature intends them to be

cough cough

I have respect for both subcool and swerve, they seem like some hard working guys that catch way more flak than they need to, what strains have you tryed from each? and what was your biggest criticism of the two? you cant just say they suck without providing evidence as to why you dont like them as human beings.

come on dude. Serve and cool are the marketing hype Iam hipe and in the game guys. Pure marketing. Seeing so many grows unstable says enough. They just want to ride the wave of selling seeds and hype as long as possible. Very few stable time honored research companies. Just goes with the business as it stands. could be changing when big business throws big money into it. Till then they are pollen throwing closet kings and always mention they are bigger and do more research then actually are. WE ARE THE TESTER. THEY DONT REALLY HAVE TESTERS. They are making it work for them is to Be admired by I would approach in a more professional manor. I can say Serious seeds has been more then expected. Some surprises from cc good and bad comes with the company approach.

I thought DNA genetics was the shit.... tried all their ogs and the purple wreck..purple wreck had hermie issues (not just me)

They lost some parents and the strains are not the same as 2 yrs ago.

about a year and 1/2 ago.. Cali connection gave me autos that were not supose to be autos...then replaced them with beans that went hermie

I stopped playing the seed game lookin for the 1 and just keep all the kill genectics I have had for years

everyone goes through the seed game..... when your done playin you realize.... aquiring clones from exsisting kill moms is the way to roll...then keep those clones going for a lifetime...no need for seed when you got killer weed :)

My suggestion would be this => Try taking your seeds that you made, and try selling them.

You could just sell them to some retailer like the attitude. But how many of your seeds do you think they might buy?

Or maybe even though they don't buy that many they still want you to spot them out, and pay you as they are sold.

Seed banks like Herbies etc. have to ADVERTISE all the time. This advertising, can be very expensive. You'd freak if I told you how much they want for a banner ad here at roll it up.

Why is DJ so expensive? Same reason Neal Adams art is pricey. Both are well known/famous to some degree.

And while DJ's line prolly isn't any better then the next guy, people will still pay big for a name.

That's another thing (a big name) you have to have built up, to get big dollars for any product.

And to be even more frank, sometimes the breeder just gets screwed over royal, even when the guy screwing him owes him money.

It can be a nut deal, Emery took my Wonderbud to Nimbin. Thought so much of it, he actually had it grown out in Australia, along with a lot of other top strains from his catalog, to compete in the Nimbin cup.

Here's a picture of the results of that endeavour:

b96.PNG
The original name for Wonderbud, was Vick's Vapor Rub X Redenbacher 413

You can see my old name I use to use, (tim haight) at Emery's site and Overgrow.

The original name came from my friend Bill Wonder. However he later changed his mind (and called it wonderbud) after I had sent Emery the seed and told Emery it was called Vic's x Redenbacher 413. So that's how it appeared in the magazine. It came in 3rd with special mention for the incredible flavor it has.

Good outlook. There is always going to be a "latest and greatest" out there. Have a few moms with good genetics and variety... There is no need to keep playing the seed gamble. Letting go of the seed game has it's benefits - no hermies, time to dial in, cash in your pocket. If you consider that you might be keeping your top plants for years and years, $200 for good genetics isn't a bad deal.
