Got my seeds today, started them with septic safe toilet paper moistened in zip lock bag.

Prepared 1pot so far, using a large tub that cattle lick comes in. It's a HUGE tub. I placed a layer of small river rocks in the bottom, then @ 3" of composted horse manure from a "dry lot". For those who may not know, a dry lot is nothing more than a penned in area where no grass grows Our horses are fed almost nothing more than hay in the dry lot, occasionally some sweet feed.

Next I mixed Kellogg's organic potting mix, mixed with sand at a ratio of 4:1, 4 of the mix, 1 of sand. This made a pretty nice loamy soil. I didn't use much sand because it had perlite or vermiculite already in the organic soil. 3-5 gallon buckets of this mix was the final layers. The total amount in this tub is approximately 20 gallons total at an estimated dry weight of @ 70 - 75 pounds

This will be an outdoor grow so I placed it in the northern part of a pasture that has no animals in it. I chose the north side of the pasture so that it would receive the most sunlight.

I am starting late with my grow, so I won't be able to harvest until October most likely, maybe November assuming the temperature stays in a favorable range and there's no frost.

I forgot to tell you that on top of the horse manure, I added some dry chicken manure. Total depth of the soil is @ 2' top width of the pot is also about 2'. These are rough guesstimates. I will measure these dimensions tomorrow.

If anyone has questions concerning this grow, I don't mind answering them. Helpful advice is okay but please don't call me an idiot or condemn what I am TRYING out. I didn't have time to do the "super soil". Time is of the essence at this stage for an outside grow, as I am sure you all know.

I only decided to grow a couple of weeks ago, AFTER I found out that you can order seeds online. So it became a race against time, or so it seems. I won't feel quite so rushed in a week.... I hope! I know I have taken a bit of a shortcut, and rushed to get AVAILABLE materials, so I am hoping that it turns out decent, if not the best choice on this endeavor. My way of thinking is better to have some fairly good smoke, even if it isn't approaching the highest quality it could be, than to have none at all. Shake your head but wish me luck! Lol.

Okay, my guesstimate was way off. You can see the correct size/depth with a measuring tape draped over the container. I guess I need to mix more soil because I don't think 1' depth is enough. Am I wrong? Is one foot of soil deep enough?

This should give you an idea of the size of these lick tubs. This is a picture of one with a 5 gallon bucket inside of it.

Man! I sure hope that this is a good omen! 24 hours after starting germination, the roots have just broken through the shell. 100% germination rate! I am STOKED! If everything continues like this, my first grow will be a success!

I know, I know, don't count your chickens before they hatch. Anyway, it's a good start. I am pleased for now.

Side note:: the White Widow has a little bit more of a root coming out than the AK47. No clue why this is so. Different strains different germination rate? Maybe, but not really sure. Need more attempts for more details. Unless someone else has attempted germination of White Widow and AK47 at the same time?

The seeds are planted in "Cow Pots". A biodegradable pressed peat moss type of pot. But it's made from compost that used cow manure instead of just peat moss. Anyway it will make transplanting to its final home easier.

I may be wrong, but I think that it will have some of the advantages of the "grow sack" or "grow bag" that I see mentioned by some soil growers, giving the roots time to breathe.

Add: these are # 4 pots. Forgot to mention that.

Just 24 hours after the sprouts were placed in soil, 1 white widow has it's seed leaves above the surface, still waiting for an appearance on the other WW and the 2 AK47.

Have my pots full of soil, should be of a good consistency, the top half inch dried after 24 hours after being damp. Should allow the roots to get oxygen.

Speaking of which, I added a few earthworms. I can only see them as a benefit, adding castings and aerating the soil, breaking down more nutrients. For uptake by the plants.

Different strains germinate at different times, some have harder shells than others ect. Then you have to think about how they was stored one seed might be older than another... im sure everything will go well for you, just dont overfeed and im sure you will have a nice smoke for christmas ;) , will keep a eye on your grow

You'll be fine. Stop panicking. Don't overthink it.

The first WW I grew I did in cheap 2.5 gallon black pots left over from some baby knock-out roses I bought. I got 3.5 ounces out of each one. You'll be fine.

Could of been anything with that one, for future reference make a chicken wire fence to keep all wildlife away, rabbits deer ect, rhen use some copper pipe and make a triangle shape, put this at the base of your plant and it will stop slugs .. make sure you stake in the chicken wire so its strong as deer like to terminator their way through it
