White Widow Auto/ Vero29/ Hydro

Thought I'd make a little journal to help me out in future and maybe some others if anyone's interested

Basically building and adjusting as I go but the plan is

2x Vero29 v2 3000k cobs
5ltr Bubbler
In about a 2.5x2ft stealth box (converted drawers)

Basically I got the White Widow Auto, chucked it in a glass of highland spring water for about 8 hours. Pulled it out and put it into a root riot cube which has the same water on and left it for the rest of the day/night
Was around half hour short of 24hrs and I'm at this stage

Which is alot quicker than expected

I'll be chucking some lights in my box tomorrow and have the Bubbler set up ready as well and will stick pics up as I go
:D

So I've just got up and slapped together a small cabinet with dodgy lights and stuff for now, got the Bubbler in there running with the lights in a 20/4 timer
Cut the bottom off a bottle and poked some pin sized holes in it for a mini green house to get her going

The Bubbler has just plain ro water in it for now, the lights are a 2700k 65watt thing and a 6500k Arcadia led lamp I found. Completely wrong for now but they will have to do untill my cobs arrive

Nothing has changed, I swapped out the 65watt 2700 for a 30watt 6500 bulb
Really need to sort better fans out to keep the heat down, the 30watt runs really cool though compared

The drivers for the LEDs turned up

Just waiting on the heatsinks (ac11 pro) and thermal paste (GC extreme) to turn up. I'll be connecting to 2 heatsinks together and have them as 1 unit I think

Then I can order the cobs and a fan/filter on Friday

The first set of proper leaves are on their way but there's abit of stretch going on. To be expected I guess from my crappy CFL's I have in there but they'll make do for now

I'll be putting full build pics up to try and help anyone when they arrive. Should be running them early next week

The heatsink have arrived for the LEDs now it's just a wait for them! Can't wait, there's quite alot of stretch going on ATM and it needs sorting!

Then I just need a better fan and filter sorting out and things can get serious in a little space

Small update, just switched out the led thing I had and stuck in another 30w 6500k cfl. Should give it more light.
Been told the veros could take a little longer to get here -_-

Bro can you explain in a bit more detail about this 5lt bubbler set up? How you running it?

I'm quite interested in this kind of grow, but it always looks complicated, and your looks pretty simple, which is cool.

Yeh man its simple as hell

Start with a bucket

Bang a hole in the top

Feed an airline through

Attach your airstone, mines a ring glued to the bottom but you can use whatever ones you like

Attach your airpump, I use a 200LPH airpump

Then you just need to put a hole in the lid for a net basket

That's it, nothing fancy and works brilliantly :D

Awesome man, thanks! How often do you change the water in the bucket, and do you mix your nutes straight into the water and feed continuously?

Do you think I could incorporate this setup for 4-5 plants? Would I need separate air pumps for each bucket or perhaps one larger air pump to feed all of them?

I'd usually fill it about an inch below the pot, mix nutes in and get them to the strength needed then pH test it and adjust
ATM I'm only using ro water for the first 2weeks roughly. I do a full change when it get to about half but keep an eye on the pH, as the water level drops the pH changes quite abit

Yeh you could use 1 big container with 4/5 holes in but you might need a larger pump. It all works the same, just scale it to the size needed. You can get fancy and add pumps to drain and fill which at that kind of size could be a good idea to save disturbing the plants to much when they get big

Thanks bud. I'm still using an organic soil/perlite mix, and was looking into doing a pure coco grow, but this also looks interesting. Maybe my next run I'll grow 1 or 2 plants in a bucket and the rest in coco to do a comparison.

I think having each plant in their own bucket it a better option. Thanks!

Yeh, 5l is probably abit on the smaller side but fits perfectly for the space I have. I have grown in a 2l one before and that was fine just need to keep an eye on pH, and its always best to underfeed in hydro. I learnt that the hard way haha

Here's where it's at, I've changed the exhaust fan from 5v to 9v and the difference is pretty big, hopefully will help keep things cooler. Might need an intake hole drilling though

Rosswaa Can I ask how you get water to your air pot? I see that you don't have a drip feed going into the air pot so how do you get water to it, or do you just let the roots go down into the reservoir?

When its young I make sure the water is up just over where the bottom of the net pot is. The water naturally wicks up through the hydroclay and to the roots, as the roots grow through and down into the water I lower the level a few inch which help keep the roots airated and encourages growth

Ah ok makes sense now lol.

I think you've sold me on the bubbleponics method. I'll give it a shot after my coco grow!

Little update, I left the little one without food from seed for exactly 2 weeks. Probably wasn't a great idea as it started to suffer in the last 2 days but I stuck with it and held my ground. On the second week I gave it fresh ph'd water with quater strength ionic grow nutes

Seems to be loving it.

Still working on a new Stealth box and still waiting for these bloody veros to arrive -_-. Can't wait for them to come though
