I take it you have an idea of what both theses theories entail. Which will prove to be the unifying theory of everything? Or will we need another Einstein to come up with a new theory?

String Theory or Loop Quantum Gravity. Vote above

Just wanted to bump this thread. I know there's some pretty intelligent cats on here so please cast your vote or comment.

Neither.

"There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.

There is another theory which states that this has already happened."

Yes but I believe that the 3 natural forces and gravity can be understood as a logical whole. Did you yourself not say that we are getting closer to grand unification?

Yes, but a 'Theory of Everything' at this point is a theory that requires another theory. It's fun to think about, but.. let's not get too ahead of ourselves. I'm not saying it can't/won't be done, just that when it is, it'll likely be something we've yet to think of.

Need more data!

Bc I believe we are intelligent enough to come up with a full understanding of the universe. Though we will never really know for sure.

One thing I've learned on the road to become a Physicist is one needs to be aware of the axiom from the Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus in Alchemy,

As Above, So Below

I think I figured out a principle fault in Loop Quantum Gravity; it is the assumption the Universe began with a "Big Bang".

That is a serious kink which needs to be smoothed by falsification.

Doesn't understanding require knowledge? Your statement seems to be a non sequitur.
We can understand things because they make perfect sense. There is no absolute certainty is what I mean.

"Only the sensual is of absolute certainty, as clear as the sun" I forget who said that 18th century philosopher
