Where to find "Earth Worm Castings" in major retailers?

I've looked in a lot of the big-box stores [i.e. Home De Pot] and a couple local nurseries, and none of them apparently have ever even heard of worm castings. I've tried about 5 different places and I don't want to waste anymore gas and effort for a lost cause. I also don't want to order any soils online, i've had my identity stolen one too many times from hyrdo sites.

What major stores carry worm castings, or are they under a different name in the non-cannabis world?

Wal-mart, and really any descent garden store.

eBay if your willing to do that, but it sounds like you aren't.

I order from hydro stores all the time and never have had my identity stolen. And you are saying that you have had it done multiple through ordering from hydro stores? Where did you order from? iamasucker.com?

Lowe's and Wal-Mart both have organic bone meal and blood meal. That will work well mixed in with your soil. I have some of each and use it on my vegetable garden, stuff works great. I would recommend getting those two if you can't find worm castings. Good luck with whatever you do

When I was digging holes for my guerrilla grow I noticed the dirt was full of red worms :joint:

They were eating the stalks of my leftover plants from last season too.

I don't think wally world is carrying them this year..try calling the local garden centers or nurseries you have in your area..if you have 2 wally worlds in the area there must be a few private garden centers as well. I got lucky and found some at a local garden center, which is in NO way a hydro store.

last resort could be to get a hold of a local worm supplier for fishing...and see if they have any castings they'll sell you...but i dunno if you'd feel comfortable doing all that if yer not comfortable ordering online ;)

and they're not referred to under another name that I know of...just EWC for short..but that's mostly internet stuff imo.

I know you say you've had your ID stolen twice....thats some really bad luck. I have them at my local garden nursery and in the hydro shops but a pretty good place to order and a very high number of ppl here use this site and have had absolutely no problems.

I would update my computer if I were you and ensure you have the latest and greatest security updates. Not that its 100% safe, but its better than not having it.

I just started seeing and hearing about EWC at wal-marts this year...at least around here. Too bad they wouldn't carry it in other parts of the country.

The best price that I found was on ebay, and it also happens that I trust eBay.

A local garden center told me they were out because this year it seems everyone wants some EWC but the supply is short (around here anyway).

I'd talk to a garden store manager and see where the EWC is, why they don't have it, and if they could order some.

I saw some from terracycle at home depot where im at...I wasn't paying $14 bucks though...I ordered mine from blue mountain organics...They came with some bat guano for 4 bucks. I thought that was an alright deal since i needed to place an order. I would suggest using prepaid gift cards for your orders thats what I did, it costs $4 bucks extra for the card.

I have since started a small worm bin for about $15 bucks at wallmart...They have giant red worms in the fishing area...i picked up 70 some worms for a couple bucks...I think there off and breeding (and shitting). I plan on picking up some red wigglers...There little tiny worms the landfills use.:peace:

SlipperyP..... So true.... Terracycle was started by some college kids looking to make some extra dough years ago. But now it looks like their trying to become a Fortune 500 company off their worm shit....
.
Massive price increases (Greed) for such a simple product - some worm castings in clean water, in previously used 2 liter soda bottles...... How much expense could they have ? I bought some several years ago for $ 4. I was all for helping some American College Kids pay their way thru college, now they want $ 8.50...a bottle.... Greedy....

I would have paid $8 that day....it was $13.88....I like having the worms going. I need to find a spot to go dig some red wigglers.

I have tons of cows where I'm at and as far as I understand there manure worms that live close to the surface of the earth?

Has anyone ever dug exclusively for them. I'm using giant reds from walmart. They leave a large casting, im sure the little worms work better.

I have. You'll find them in compost or manure piles. The species you're looking for is Eisenia fetida. The red worms you got at Wal-Mart are probably Lumbricus rubellus.

Do some googling to learn what they look like and then go find a big pile of manure/compost and you will find them. You'll also find a lot of their coccoons, so learn what they look like, too.

Or, if you don't like the idea of digging around in manure you can order a giant bag of them for like $20 on ebay.

Thanks....I don't mind the digging....I like to get out sometimes. I know what those little suckers looked like. I just couldn't remember when I had seen them.

There the little bastards that are too small for fishing but you try anyway and they just fall off over and over. I can't believe there $20 bucks a pound.

The worms said panfish/trout worms...on the website they called them giant reds. I'm gonna go dig some today, I think it will be a perfect day.:hump:
