Where is a good place to live?

We moved back to Ga from Alaska. I knew that was going to suck because I love winter sports and colder weather and I hate the heat and damn bugs here. So we've decided sell off our things, buy a motor home, put the things we *have* to have in the belly of the beast and hit the road for Oregon. We plan to travel around and find just the right place, buy a piece of land and build a cabin. My passion is downhill skiing and growing weed, and not necessarily in that order. My wife would kill me if I landed her in a place with winters like Anchorage. I don't mind an hours drive to a ski slope but that's about all I would want to drive back home, considering how I feel after a full day of it. The education system is not important to me and I don't want to live in a city of over 60,000 at the most. Portland has enough volunteers keeping it weird; I'll do my part for a smaller town. I've spent about 10 hours pouring over Citydata.com and reading forums, but you can't find a place like that. Any suggestions?

Personally not very fond of the area myself, but La Grande might be a decent fit. It is roughly an hour to Anthony Lakes I believe. Might be 90 min don't recall. Good luck.

West Plains, Banks, any area west of Hillsboro will put you in the woods and a Cabin would fit in nicely. If you don't mind cold winters (not like Alaska) you could check into places like Medford, Bend, Redmond... Either of the places I mentioned would put you within an hour of either Mt. Hoot, or Mt. Bachelor.

You might also look into St.Helens, Vernonia, or Scapoose.
