Where did I go wrong? (Ice wax) help?

After reading these forums and Matt rize's post on his methods among many other methods, I took it upon my self to create some bubble hash.
I bought 8 bags and 4x 5 gallon buckets
My product was Dutch treat shake at a dispensary that was selling shake for 60$ an ounce. I know this sounds a bit low but I thought I would try out something affordable before I go blow a shit load of money on higher quality product that is not shake.

Here is a quick list of what I used in the process
4 gallons of glacier RO water
1 bag of Reddyice (store bought) I know this is a cardinal sin, but I looked into this brand and they claim RO ice. Also the ice it self is not milky, but clear and see through.
2 ounces of Dutch treat shake 120$ total
8 bags
3 curing jars
1 microplaner
1 silk screen

I started off by putting my shake in the freezer to bring it to a cold level for about 12 hours.
With 8 bags in one of the 5 gallon buckets, I poured ice/shake/ice/shake/ice and then proceeded to fill the bucket about 3-4 inchs from the top of the ice level. I let it sit for about 20 minutes before I began my agitation process on my first batch which was for 2 minutes, the water was a nice light brown and after I drained all of it I got my yield from my 90,73,45,25 bags. I then did another run very shortly after and agitated for 5 minutes, I removed about 3 bags the second time around just to speed up the process of getting to the 90,73,45.

I put what I collected on a 25 micron sheet with a towel underneath, which I then covered with a silk screen and let dry for about 12 hours.
After that I broke up my different grades of material with the microplaner (this part confused me because it felt sand like almost throughout the whole 12 hours as if it instantly dried up) After I broke it up I put them in seperate jars to cure.

This is where I am confused, everytime I try to go and smoke it through dabbing, it just burns instead of melting, it turns black as char and does not do anything when it hits my nail. Can someone please explain to me where I went wrong? do I have hash on my hands that I can sprinkle on bowls instead of a full melt crumble? should I let it cure in the jars for several weeks? I have read that you can smoke it 48 hours after.

I jarred them on the 8th
it is now the 10th
Obviously they can be cured for a much longer time then two days but I am just confused with the testing process which I have seen Matt do, where he smokes some of the finished product shortly after to test it for water.

Thanks for any help and consider me a novice in this whole field, this was my first attempt at a run.

You should try pressing it with heated water. Go to youtube and look up frenchie canoli. You can also find his thread here under subcools old school organics.

Pressing it won't make it full melt... some strains just don't produce it also quality of material before is critical. I used all nugs of a sativa to get my first full melt ice wax. My mk ultra ice wax was amazing but not full melt.

so I could still salvage it, to a certain degree it just wont be ice wax.
I was hoping this strain would be a crumble type, I just am inexperienced when it comes to understanding how things are suppose to turn out, especially since this is my first run.

No ice wax but basically the best damn bubble you can make. I've tried smoking the crumbles and pressing Frenchy style and enjoy both.

thanks to both of you and to you paintedchef for that reference, so far I love how thorough he is in his process. I understand why others are reluctant to give away their secrets. I honestly just want to learn how to make great ice wax because where I live there is absolutely NONE to purchase, All BHO and honestly I have no idea how to tell which clinics are the legit BHO products and not the BHOtards.

So I watched frenchy's way of rolling it but when I tried it my self nothing happened to the 90 hash
I used a glass bottle that had boiling hot water in it and rolled it at least 10 times and still just exactly what I left off with :\

Kase is right. your stuff isnt full melt enough, or the right strain to do that... otherwise it would melt into itself on its own. you basically made kief.. next run. higher grade material + more material + less rinsing. youll find that bubble hash is extremely low yields. I once ran 200g (8 oz) of very nice trim (stuff that yielded 20g of oil per 100g trim) and all I got was like 15g hash that was nothing special. a lot of these "big dogs" that you see with the amazing pics... theyre working with POUNDS and POUNDS of fresh, AAA material. some guys grow 20 beautiful plants and use every single bud JUST for bubble hash sorta thing.. not just 2 oz of shake. its all dependant on starting material, and even at that, its like a 5% yield :(

ive done ice wax runs too and got the same thing...except in a hard chunk. if I broke it up it would be just like yours, which isnt full melt.. right? does it melt when smoked? leave any ash behind?

still looks like nice stuff though.

yeah I have come to accept that I just have kief on my hands

if I put it in a bowl and smoke it, it turns into ash, if I put it on a dabber and try to dab it, it just turns black. I guess I am stuck just smoking a bowl of kief or sprinkling it on some flower then huh?
So there is no efficient way for someone that just wants a few grams to do it then?

No there is, it is just strain and quality dependent. Ya can't just take any old shake and make full melt with it.

The only problem here seems to be the quality of your trichomes. The process of collecting trichomes is so basic that with the minimum understanding and care, which you put in, you should be able to get a high end product if you had started with high quality trichomes. It does not matter how good you are at collecting, the trichomes always tell the truth. Those trichomes are telling you that the trims were not worth it.
High quality trims will give you up to 65 grammes of Hash bit it can go as low as 10. An average in the mid 40 is quite good.
