Hey all, my plant is currently 16 days into veg, planning to give it 30 days veg time. I only live near walmart, home depot, rona, home hardware, lowes. I need to know what type of nutrients my plant will need and when I need to add it.

Lights: 4, 23w 5000k CFL and 2, 13w 2100k bulbs under 18/6
Soil: Miracle Gro African Violet (Strained out nute balls and woodchips)

im far from an expert but you want high nitrogen fert for veg. i have a 3-2-4. 3 is for nitrogen. read some other threads with very detailed info and get a better idea. you could probably start using some ferts now. read the directions though. most are 1tbsp/gallon. dont use that much. use something like 1/4 or 1/2 strength and work your way up. dont use ferts every watering. but you need to search around these forums more. i didnt know any of this like a week ago until i found this site. look for uncle ben's posts.

Is that miracle grow time release ferts? If it says "feeds plants for up to 3 months" or some shit like that, do not add any nutes, you will fry the youngsters. Read your bag first.

yeah it is, but I sifted most out. it does say feeds up to 3 months, so when should I add them during the 30 day veg? and when during flower?

OMG ok dude this isn't so tough.... if you wanna add nutes before all the nutes in the soil are depelated you get whatever nute your going to run and start at like 1/5-1/6th strength.... slowly ramp up the dose. Now the other way to do it is start at 1/4 or 1/2 dose and feed only every other time or every 2x so out of 3 watering you feed once.

Now since you sifted most of the time release balls out, i would start more near 1/2 strength..... BTW depending on contanier size, the nutes you are going to use, water quality, the plants genetics and etc.... you may need more nutes then 1/2 strength or you may only need to feed once every 4 waterings. READ YOU PLANTS.... if you check on them once every day or 2 you can start to see what they need as they will give you signs.

Also one of the most common and biggest mistakes I see with people starting out and using Big box soil is they way over water!!! Specially since you took out the wood bark chips which actually help with drainage..... you might in the beginning of veg only need to water once every 10-12 days maybe even longer.... so be careful cause over watering causes tons of problems for little plants and prevents good solid root growth.

STOP!!! before even thinking about giving any nutrients you may want to lower that PH i hope I'm not too late cause i see a lockout and toxicity in your future.

Not true my friend MG soil don't have enough nutes to burn.MG potting mix 0.21-0.07-0.14 and very minute,My bloom plus 10-54-10 and i feed it to seedlings.

Just curious.... but what gives you the foresight to the lockout and toxicity problems? His plant looks nice thus far.... nice tight node stacking and a rich green color... ATM it totally does not need nutes. Like not at all those leaves look pretty fucking heavy green to me.... Once they start fading/dimming out colorwise then you can slowly add nutes like I was mentioning above.....

But yeah I am curious as to if you saw something in the posted photo, or comments O.P. made that leads you to see/believe he needs to lower his ph?? I don't know exactly what the numbers/ph on the Violet mix is but you got me curious....

I used MG all purp. soil and MG all purp. ferts on 2 plants until they were about1 1/2 months into flower, using the small scoop end of the measuring spoon every third or 4th water, then found some Burpee 0-15-11 at Lowe's in the seed section, that I have been using throughout flower.
*Note* Did not go to the trouble to pull the time release balls, and do not have any wood chips so IDK if my soil is the same as yours.
Mine may be the potting soil.
Don't feel bad if you get bashed about the MG, not many people like or use it for weed, but it worked fine for me, and didn't cost anything because I already had some left from tomatoes.

6.7ph is what you feed at?! or what your tap water is or?!

Just curious and 6.7 is a bit high... I would run more like 6.3 personally....

I have a similar question I will just leave here. When should I add nutes when flowering? Like how far along? I''ve used veg nutes but never flowering so this is a first time for me.

I feed veg nutes through the first 7-10 days of flower, then a 50.50 mix of flower and veg if the line allows them to be mixed together ( some dont work well like that ) and then from that point forward bloom.

Also if your soil is 6.7 I would still feed at like 6.3 or so...... help keep everything in check as ph tends to rise as the plant uses what it needs.

Your water is really a straight 7.0?! I haven't seen that except in like commercially distilled water in a long while.... I mean I have both an r.o. and a 3 stage flter system... R.O. is better or well less ppm by alot but still I think the closest to 7.0 mine has got was like 7.6

My buddy when running r.o. gets his water at like 6.7-6.8 but a perfect 7 from tap water would be sweet.
