What's with all the hate on autos..Let's compare.

I don't get all the hate on auto plants. On the other sections of this forums, if someone mentions an auto as a suggestion to a noob question, a half dozen people will chime in with some sort of comment saying to disregard the post. Saying if they are growing autos, they don't know about growing, or saying that autos have no potency, or less taste, etc.

I'd like to see reviews that compare the same strain and same breeder with auto vs photo plants and see what the results are.
For example, a dinafem WW vs the taste, potency and harsness of smoke compared to a dinafem WW auto.

If anyone has grown and smoked in strain for strain comparisons, chime in with your outcome please. I'm really interested in hearing your thoughts.

Autos are bred with cannabis ruderalis, which while it does give the plant the AF quality, is also well known and proven to have less thc than indicas and sativas. That's pretty much what it comes down to, you trade convience(depending on your setup) for quality. Plenty of growers here do some nice work with autos, but they could probably produce even better stuff with the opportunity to use regs.

Also you can't grow em big.

Plain and simple autos are a waste of time and money. 18/6-24 to achieve maximum yield on an auto costs more money all while most likely being less potent. You can grow 12/12 from seed and get a pretty decent yield in maybe 2-3 weeks longer and not have your plants crossed with something that's basically garbage. This saves money while providing better results. This is why people say to disregard. Because people who are growing autos solely are not really using their heads. This is additional wear and tear on equipment and everything else on top of having shit genetics mixed in.

I've grown and smoked a few autos when I started, because I listened to bad advice from people spreading this auto bullshit. If you can't grow a normal cannabis plant you can't grow and autoflowering plant, shit's not that fuckin hard and they aren't that fucking different as far as ease of grow goes. A noob can kill an auto the same way they can kill a regular photoperiod plant.

I appreciate your input guys.
Southern, thanks I knew about the ruderalis cross to make them auto and figured that was part of some people's reasoning. And yea, they don't get very big, my biggest was right about 30", but that's fine for me right now, until I get the grow room built, 30" is about pushing the limits of my cabinet.

Mr Head, I agree, you can kill either plant and also that if you can grow one, you can grow the other. The strains you grew, did they happen to be same strains and breeder as some photos that you grew as well?

Anyone that has grown, like I stated above, same "strain" and breeder auto vs photo? I'm smoking from a PE auto right now, but I've never grown a PE photo, but it's gooooooooood smoke

It all comes down to genetics. Ahhh.... quality genetics I mean and the growers ability/experience. Auto's I grow are 1 hitter quitters, they stand ground when compared to my photos. My buddies cant tell the difference and neither can I. I HAVE TO label everything because it's all super bomb and I would lose track of whats what.

There are times when autos fit the bill perfectly.
I used to think they were a waste of time, then I received a freebie and threw it outside last summer.
It was Somango and stronger than many of the regs I was running at the time.
If you live in a Northern or cooler climate, autos finish well outside.
Where I live, it's hard to finish a photo plant outside, since the temps are too cold by the time we get to a 12/12 light cycle in the early fall.
It starts frosting around mid September.
An auto placed outside in May, will finish nicely in July/August when the sun is cranking 18 hours a day.
The auto I grew yielded 2.5 oz. of great smoke.
I have five auto beans I ordered for this summer. I am going to grow them all outside just to take advantage of the free light.
I run a perpetual indoors, with reg beans, but this is so easy and the plants are nice and short, why not?
I can hide a plant here and there in my vegetable garden outside.
The auto I grew last summer was in between a couple tall tomato plants and loved it.
I would never have tried an auto except for the freebie.
If I can grab 10-12 oz of smoke for $35.00 worth of beans, what the hell.

Right now my autoflowering super skunk is at 1 month and its smelling up the entire room. Pretty sure the potency will be just fine. Pretty sure the rudderalis that autos are mixed with are very high in cbds which does contribute to a high just not as significantly as thc. But cbds are praised for medicinal values which is why I'm growing...

dude go with the autos if you dont have enough space for a seperate flowering room simple as that. i start a new run of autos when im about a month away from harvest, have my seedlings in the perimeter, by the time i harvest i have another bunch of plants to take their place. where i live nobody smokes mids or low grade weed just sour, haze and kush and everybody that i have shared my autos with loved it including i. i smoked my first blunt in 1995 and have smoked all types of mj believe me when i tell you- theres nothing wrong with autos just make sure you get them from a good breeder with a good reputation and genetics
good luck

I've had experience (my third grow so take it with a grain of salt) doing a Delicious Seeds Critical Jack Herer auto and photo both in DWC under 600w mh/hps setup. The auto under 20/4 and the photo using normal photo light schedules. Even with my lack of experience I can tell hands down the regular photo plant tasted better and had higher quality smoke. But like I said, I'm a newbie as I've only been at this a year or so now.

I did a Auto Berry Ryder that you can see here. https://www.rollitup.org/auto-flowering-strains/777726-auto-berry-ryder.html It was over 6 feet tall (not including the bucket) so the whole "They don't get big" someone mentioned is relative I guess. Haven't seen any monster autos but I'm sure someone will be along to post something soon. Its just a matter of genetics and someone actually breeding a strain that has those tendencies.

In the end though I just went with regular plants instead of autos because of the quality. That is not to say that there are outstanding auto strains out there! With regular beans I really don't have to hunt for quality. I'm sure as the breeding continues quality will keep getting better and better.

You can easily get a crop off if you cut the light everyday. The first outside bud I grew in Canada was grown in a box, 4' x 4' x 8' high. Every morning I opened the lid and closed it 12 hours later. The north has more than enough sunlight, too much.

Auto's are for stoners that can't keep up with something as simple as TIME. (Knowing when to switch lights to flowering mode)
To each his own, autos work fine for some people. You can control regulars more, and get a better end product from them though

Hey, I discovered all this stuff by happen stance. Otherwise known as trial and error. I don't recall them teaching us how to grow mj when I went to school. Growing inside or successful outside mj, in a mj hostile climate is not the work of idiots regardless of what strain is being grown.

I grow both auto and photo. My super Cali haze at 18\6 turned into one of the prettiest plant/form I have seen. I unfortunately didn't get to finish it because I had to make an emergency move but it works have easily Been 4 oz dry. I just recently harvestEd an auto AK from my flower tent at 12/12 for 80% of its life and got 58 g dry.

Or they are convenient for people that want to grow in non green states. Before I moved to Colorado I lived in a state that had the opposite view of growing. Due to low grow scent, small size, and quick harvest time they were ideal if getting caught is a concern. I grew four autos in my old apartment with no carbon filter and 400 watt hps and grew some pot worth being proud of

Speaking of which, what are some of the fastest strains for growing a full grow in under 60 days? I want a strain I can grow, harvest, and have dried n cured in about 2 months
