most people will pretty much just say any indica but not all strains are created equal i know this personally as i suffer with really bad insomnia that makes living almost unbearable at times. i can go 3 days without sleep and then crash on the fourth day then repeat its a vicious cycle and weed had broken it for some time but my tolerances have been up for too long and it just dose not work like it used to. i can tell you right now og kush works better than master kush so dont just tell me "pretty much any kush strain"

im more looking for feedback from a caregiver who deals with a patient in a similar situation. and or maybe theres a strain that you have found works for you let me know.

there's actually a strain that just came to mind that i remember made me pass out on the side of the road in my car for 3 hours past my 12 o'clock curfew several years back. it was called purple princess and it was dark purple on the outside and a beautiful pink on the inside ill try and track down a cut

but i still really want to hear what strains people with sleep problems have found to work.

really well made edibles, in high doses, knock me out.

I find melatonin before bed helps me sleep too. Its the natural chemical your body releases, its supposed to be for if you have a deficiency, but I prefer it over unnatural sleep aids.

I know CBD is great for pain, I wonder if the pain relief is calming for muscles and in turn helps with sleep... if so harlequin (sp) but I think thats cut only as well.

I'd say OG Kush, Bubba Kush, GDP, a lot of Indica-Dominant strains, or any Purple Indica-dominant strain. And like everyone else has said, if that doesn't work use a quality edible, they always seem to be able to knock me out when I need it.

lol ya def edibles...made my own brownies with just trimmings about two days after harvest...didnt think it would do much as i had tried once before using a different method and they were bunk.....but i ate one and a smile came over my face i thought to myself "im getting high but i didnt smoke" and for some reason i found that funny...so i ate another one...didnt really feel like i was getting higher so i ate a third....and then BAM i was soooooo baked and i have a high ass tolerance, i got super hungry ate food and again laughed at the idea "that i wasnt sobering up even though i ate" and i lasted about another hour before i just passed the hell out..probably took an hour to set in all the way and then i was up for like an hour so 2-3 hours and you will be sleeping like a baby..woke up with a little of that groggy still stoned feeling (which i can never achieve just smoking anymore) .....it was epic

this is very simple for you... just get any decent indica hybrid that is mainly indica...

then all you have to do is let it flower longer and let the trichomes darken to all amber...

then... its off to lights out land... ;)

you must have missed the part where he asked not to just say an indica....we all already know indicas are better for this he wants to know what ones are exceptionally better!!

Correct. CBD is what takes the edge off. It's relaxing and will help you sleep somewhat. But here's the thing. CBD alone is bullshit. It reacts with thc. Without thc, it's not going to do much. This is why IMO strains like harlequin are total bullshit.

I'd much rather have a strain that is 18% thc 2.5% cbd, then a strain that is 8% thc 12% cbd. Seems like the people making these strains are not paying attention to the actual effects the buds have, and are just going to produce the highest possible cbd test result.

Here's some harlequin test results. Like most gen 1 high cbd strains, it's weak as fuck in terms of thc, focusing only on getting the highest cbd content possible.

http://www.sclabs.com/index.php?samplename=harlequin&sampleid=&client=&Cannabinoid=Select&sampletype=Select&filter_order=a.DateTested&filter_order_Dir=DESC&task=public&Itemid=352&limit=10&limitstart=0&option=com_scl_tested&task=public

I have much respect for the CBD project up in Mendo/Humboldt. It's a fantastic idea and they've made some real innovations. But those actual original strains kind of suck ass. I'd much rather just have a hard hitting indica.

Now check this out. This is the 1-1 (thc/cbd ratio) pheno of Cannatonic. This is the real deal. It's truly elite top shelf bud with it's 23.5 total cannabinoid content and the most unique profile ever created. IMO it's the best possible strain for insomnia/pain ever created.

Here's what it looks like when you blast it with tane.

http://www.sclabs.com/sample-details.html?task=sample&sample=120504N007

Super legit. This will knock your ass out.

But it's also important to remember that not all cannatonic cuttings are capable of producing this same profile. There are several different cannatonic phenos out there and unfortunately, the 1-1 pheno is the most rare. I'm working on getting my hands on it right now, basically having to offer ALL my genetics and then some to get it, but the guy is still thinking about it.

This pheno is the future of high CBD strains. There is nothing else that profiles anywhere close to this as far as I know. If this strain gets released to the general public, high CBD strains will take off in popularity. Not only is it the best pain relief/insomnia strain in existence, but it actually gets you high too.

Now, for extra credit...

CBD isn't the only cannabinoid that is helpful to insomnia. It is commonly mistaken that CBD is what gives you the "couchlock" effect. But it's not. CBN is actually responsible for that. CBN is a true sleep aid. The difference between your average nice bud, and bud that will put your ass on the couch is often only a 0.2% elevated CBN level.

Now there are a couple ways to give you bud a slight increase in CBN. Harvest late, cure long. Older bud often converts other canabinoids into cbn. This can bring your CBN levels up from the ~0.1% range to ~0.4%. This will provide a very significant benefit to insomnia.

But I've recently discovered that there is another way to massively boost CBN content. Use seeded bud to make concentrates.

This is the result of a hydro crop turned into buddah. It was awesome bud but it hermied and the grower didn't notice it until too late. It had fatty seeds everywhere. Completely unsmokeable, but fantastic for making extracts.

http://www.sclabs.com/sample-details.html?task=sample&sample=120602J001

You're average bud or concentrate has between 0.1%-0.5% cbn. This as you can see has 6.6% cbn. The difference? Seeds.

Now if you were to take the 1-1 pheno of cannatonic, stick a male plant in your crop so it all had seeds, and then an extract out of all of it, you'd have the best possible cannabis sleep aid on the face of the earth. You'd get an extract that I estimate would profile ~ 40% thc, 20% cbd, 8% cbn. That IMO would be one of the best insomnia cures on planet earch.

Unfortunately, this isn't really worth making IMO unless you've got that 1-1 cannatonic pheno. As soon as I get a hold of it I plan on doing exactly that, then turning the extracts into tinctures and edibles.

The short version of what I said above:

The cannatonic 1-1 pheno is the best possible strain for sleep.

i just told him it doesnt matter as long as its a decent and potent strain, just let it FLOWER LONGER till ALL AMBER...

THAT IS THE WAY TO INCREASE ITS SLEEPING EFFECTS... geez re re's

and geez dan kone just repeated the same thing i said... about the maturation time specifically...

they just made it way drawn out and longer and more complicated... ;)

Oh, forgot to mention...

Those gen 1 high cbd strains do have one use. They make amazing extracts. For some reason when you make extracts, the THC concentration of the extract will usually be 4-8x higher than the bud, but the cbd level will only be twice or three times higher.

So while buds from gen 1 strains like Omrita Rx or Harliquin will be shit, giving you less than 10% thc, when made into concentrates they are phenominal!

Well to be fair, I hadn't read your post yet. Also provided a lot more specific information on strains/techniques.

Letting your bud flower longer is ONE way to get a better cannabinoid make up for sleep, but it's not the ONLY thing you can do.

if kone is right then id go with maybe jtr?? has a 5% cbn test result(not that that holds true with every bean but u no)

yeah wasnt really sayin geez to you... ;)

but was using your comment as a reference to explain to kermit...

and to kermit... tis okay... no worries mate... :)

just tryin to give the op the simplest and most direct answer... wasnt being "vague" at all... just was giving more clarification of the fact, that it is the maturation of the plant(whichever indica)... that is the precise cause...

cause its easy peasy to get that :sleep:effect out of any potent indica... just let it go 100% amber... ;-)
