This is down to the Mayor in Maastricht and the problems the city has with drug tourists. Not violence or rowdy behaviour but car parking. By all accounts the volume of German and other traffic from neighbouring countries has turned the cities parking into a nightmare. People come and park there car and do a tour of the shops to collect as much weed as possible (where in general a 5gram rule per sale will apply). Which has subsequently jammed up parking lots and available spaces for local....quite incredible and funny really.

that sucks as maastricht was the first coffee shop i had ever been in.. i was staying in aachen, germany and took the train to maastricht as i had read they had coffee shops there.. got off of the train and found a coffee shop and enjoyed myself..

the next day i went to amsterdam for a week, but i still enjoyed maastricht..

I wouldn't take anyone to anywhere except the Grey Area....well, to buy weed. It's not the biggest places to chill. Most will have some good gear you just got to ask to see. A lot of the shops will have some regular strains and then strains that are probably bought of a number of different growers. There is no "official" central depo that shops buy their stuff from, that aspect of the whole thing is illegal. SO ALWAYS ASK TO SEE AND SMELL WHAT YOU ARE BUYING - AVOID SHOPS WITH PRE-BAGGED! A LOT OF WEED IN THE DAM HAS BEEN TUMBLED!

I find the Dampkring a bit overpriced but it's a cool spot. Shame it's gone a bit whoops upside the head after the Oceans film. Maastricht is a nice city to visit.

For the best Moroccan hash go to Cheech and Chongs and ask for "Tbisla". Its a bit out of town but worth it (you could walk - straight down from Dam to De Clerqstraat 2km).
Or if you keep heagin down that way and cross over to another main street that is parallel to that - Kinkerstraat. Keep following that road until it nearl ends and there is a reall cool spot (with top weed) called the Kashmir Lounge. And I could go on, but like GHB said, you gotta walk a lot, and check it ooot!

I've been several times, my favorite coffeeshop is Abraxas, they have 2 locations both are excellent. Have fun!

They have decided to scrap that plan toursits may buy and smoke...

I'v been twice now. Something I noticed is that for the most part all the good shops carry the same weed that seems to be from the same growers. That said there is plenty of unique buds and hash but shops and shop ownership changes often. The Grey Area did not have much in the way of good weed the last time I was in there but like I said that changes often. So whats your best bet? I'd have to say as far as "chain" coffee shops The Rokerij has pretty good weed most of the time. But there is more to Amsterdam than the chain coffeeshops. Go to the Cannabis Museum and in the basement there is a guy tending a single plant and answering questions that guy knows where to find the best of everything available in the city at any time. Best bet ask him. He snet me across to town to a place that he said he thougth had "the best fullmelt bubble hash in the world". I'll just say this the only place Ive ever seen anything near that was from a guy in Humboldt who did nothing but make hash for a living. I don't remeber the name of the place tho but have fun.

Rokerij is closed (owner busted and involved in drug shipping by all accounts). And indeed, there are gangs producing mass quantities of shit tumbled weed that is sold in most of the coffeeshops as anything from White Widow to Skunk to Northern Lights. Maybe Katsu for the melt?

I haven't been since 1992 but from 89 - 92 I was there once a month like clock work, not always Amsterdam, anywhere really. It really is a beautiful country. The best time was when my mom and sister came to visit. I took them to Amsterdam for 2 days, it was about a 3 hour drive at the time. First place I went was the tourist trap The Bulldog (not sure but I think there was only one back then) I bought a couple of grams and went outside to the circle sat down at a table and started rolling a joint. My mom and sister are freaking out, there are cops everywhere, what are you doing? I told then, relax I told you this won't hurt you and this is one of the only places people are smart enough to realize that. I smoked the joint with a cop right there and they calmed down. We still talk about that at the family at get togethers today.

the way to avoid smell is by changing bags right before you need no smell.
leave some weed in a bag for even a day, and a dog will catch the scent. MJ smell permeates pretty much anything porous.
you cant "mask" or hide the scent. you need to just make sure that whatever you carry is freshly packed into it's container, or there WILL be smell.
ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS wash your hands after handling even a used container.
