What's everyone's favorite base soil?

Just wondering what everyone is using? I'm using the roots organic which is working pretty well, just wondering if anyone has come upon something they like better.

I really like roots organic and or happy frog.

I like Ocean forest, happy frog, promix-BX.

I dislike Roots organic very much and so does EVERYBODY i know that has ever used it.


right now i am running 1 bag happy frog and 2 bags ocean forest, with alittle pro-mix and some coco-coir and perlite added

i make me own. peat, perlite and poop. 1:1:1
worm and rabbit shit are my manures

Roots Organic is working well for me. That said, I plan to start mixing my own base soil (coco/compost based, NO PEAT).

Roots Organic is fine and has always been bug free in my circles.

5 parts peat moss (switching to coco peat after i run out of peat moss)
3 parts pearlite
2 parts worm castings
1 cup dolomite lime per cubic foot
4 cups Epsoma Plant-Tone per cubic foot

Just switched to TGA's stuff... but.

Gardener & Bloome: Eden Valley Blend is some awesome soil. I'ts primarily coco and peat base. Not as hot as Roots, but I have had 100% success with this soil and still use this and other G&B products in my greenhouse.

I like to add about 1cf of perilite to a trash can of soil and a half bag of EWC (now, mind you I do this to almost all of my soil bases)

I've always used Roots Organic with no issues..
I get better results from the 707 versus the original.
Pro Organic Mix from down to earth was recently made available to me in 60 cu ft totes for a good price,might try it this winter.

roots roots and roots, it never fails me. i havent had bug issues from them and i love everything about the soil (especially that its so bomb and is made semi-locally ) plus sub likes it too which is enough for me. if i could get the soil off the shelf at my local shop i would be buying TGA soil and TGA soil only

TGA soil is my new fav!! If I were to use something else in the future, it would be happy frog

Does anyone havea specific list of states the TGA soil is available in?

roots is without a doubt my favorite. I have yet to have a problem with it, and due to my relationship with my local shop I get it for stupid cheap.

Yup. I get Roots for $12 a bag after chatting with the friendly folks at the shop. One treatment with Azamax while they are in small pots, and one after transplant ---> good to go.

I used sunshine mix advanced my first run with decent results. I'm 4 weeks into my first cycle with roots supersoil, and i just picked up 4 more bags of roots, a bale of promix bx, and a 2 cu ft bag of happy frog. probably gonna make a frankenmix after I ascertain that there are no bugs in any of the diff varietys.

ive used roots organic and it is good all around mix. but when i did a side by side test against happyfrog, i learned that the frog is stronger in nutrient content. the r.o. plant did fine, but the frog plant excelled past it in growth and yield. as did the rest living in frog surrounding it. i can use happyfrog full strenght with my strain of dumpster.
just my opinion, results may differ...

i like roots original. i store my base soil in trash cans just like my super soil, this allows me to use a mixture of more than one brand. my current mix is 2 bags roots with 1 bag happy frog and 1 bag ocean forest. it is working quite well for me.

I like Master Nursery Gardner's Gold Organic Potting soil, its very good but not sure how available it is everywhere. They also make a product called Bumper Crop which is also a great addition to your mix.

roots isnt bad. its the stores who keep the pallets outside.

call around find a store who gets it from a local distributor (found on their website). ask how they store their soil pallets. Make sure they keep it inside. then ask which local hydro store they ship to. call and ask which of the hydro stores also stores their pallets indo.

can't blame bugs for wanting to eat the buffet of shit inside if its outside teasing them.
