What would cause a beautiful bud to smoke harshly?

I was really curious about this so I decided to make a thread and ask the pros! I have smoked all kinds of bud, from corn/reggie to beautiful, sticky bud covered in snow. And I recently received a bud that was very beautiful. It was lime green, with some purple with tons of orange hairs. It was covered with all of those white crystals (what I call snow ) you love to see, and trimmed extremely tight. When I got it I didn't get to feel it because it was in the bag but it looked great as I described so I didn't do much inspection. But it wasn't very sticky, kind of felt way to moist. But when I burnt it I never smoked bud so harsh, even worse than the nastiest corn bud I have had. It tasted just as awful and the high was more like a massive headache. The last thing I noticed is it burnt into a gooey black tar goop, instead of the nice white ash you expect from dank weed. Do you think it was just really wet? Honestly I don't even think it was from water... I feel like it was soaked in a non water substance :/. What do you guys think? I wish I took pic before I smoked it all haha.

i have some street weed here a friend gave me, and its no where near as bad as what you describe

only real problem with this weed i have is it was picked early and dried too quickly
its not sticky and does not have as many crystals as weed i grow myself
but it taste smooth and fruity with a bit of a green taste where it was dried too fast
the high is quite good n clean

Luckily it was just a gram. I always get my stuff out of state directly from the grower but I was desperate. I will say that has become a hassle. The growers I know out of state are amazing at what they do but if you need some immediately for an 'emergency' or an unexpected special occasion you are screwed. I need to start looking around my area.

Only buy pot from people you know.

If its not cured properly it will be harsh.

Don't think there anything wrong, just grind it up and let it dry out, any weed smoked when a little damp will smoke and taste shit
If still taste crap when dry then the buds crap, who cares why not a lot you can do

That will actually make the smoke smoover, in most casses , Thats why commerical tobacco uses so much
