What type of LED light should I use?

No shit about that, in the process of freaking out I turned that light off and put the florescent strip back on, I won't be using any other light until the heat issues are resolved, I've been sitting around 78-82 with the strip.
That's smart..those plants wouldn't have lasted under that heat...let me warn you though.. Cheap leds get hot.. If your not willing to spend good money on leds you are taking a step backwards! Can I ask you a question.. what do you think is attainable with a first time grow?what's your goal, how much weight are you expecting?

I use Mars Hydro Reflector series...300 watts...so far no issues, I'll post up a pic here shortly...no heat issues either
Coo, I may just go with those then I have been eyeing up the mars hydro lights because they look as they would work nicely for the space. And ya, plz do post pics :)

As for what I expect, it's hard to say because I don't want to come off sounding stupid but honestly as big as I can go with organic and no nutrients. Gonna eventually use some deep pots and gonna do some pinching, hoping to score highest possible yield. No less than 2000$ worth because I gotta pay back what I put into it and pay off a 850$ debt.(though 3000$ would be ideal).

well u got the pictures and results up there :) so far no heat issues and they are a bargain I think for their price...I'm doing hydro bubblers, next grow I will aim at using aeroponics technique to increase my yield

I went into the top asked questions sticky on this forum and there is a question of "what lights I should use" but the link for it is broken so I'm asking again.

Assuming LED's are the best light(maybe debatable) I am considering grabbing one for myself because they are cooler and I can put it closer to my plants without frying them and they've got the full colour spectrum thing going for them.
I am really confused on which to get though as there is so many options.

I will start by saying NO to hydrogrowled.com as those lights are stupidly overpriced and they are the reason I have not gone LED sooner(I assumed they were all that expensive).

The main options where the LED lights are concerned seems to be 3w or 5w(I'm assuming that is the wattage of each individual bulb). also there's ones that have reflectors such as http://www.mars-hydro.com/led-grow-light/reflector-series then there's the ones like http://www.viparled.co.uk/collections/vipar-series-c/products/vipar-c600-5w-led-grow-light then there's this design http://www.viparled.co.uk/products/vipar-b3x3-5w-led-grow-light or these http://www.viparled.co.uk/products/vipar-v300-3w-led-grow-light
Also some have control panels, digital displays, switches .etc

Personally I have no idea which are best, I need one that's at least near equivalent of 600w and suitable for veg and flowering cycles, anything else that helps yield would be great.
Go with multiple lower wattage units over a single. The best thing go in now is a51 with the rw.models and Vero cob based units in June. My newest toy is a 200 watt optic lighting Vero29 3000k. Peace! If I were u go with 4000k for your full cycle. Hps. Grow buds other peeps smoke! LED Grow the candied buds I toke!

Looks like you're growing in discoloured M&M's :D

Also, cool set-up but what's your ventilation on that? And could ya link the exact light you're using? mars hydro has a few selections.

I live in an apartment
If I lived in an apartment I wouldn't be doing anything big. Just 2 plants in a 1.5x2x3' tall space, 12/12 from seed, Cree LED lightbulbs, modest ventilation requirement. Not great yield, but just a reflection of the circumstances. (If I were more ambitious, maybe I'd DIY a COB or some SMD5630 strip light.).

My #1 concern in an apartment is that the landlord can enter at any time if circumstances warrant, and has a right to enter with a small amount of notice. What landlord-tenant laws say and what landlords do are often two different things. I know a guy who owns a few duplexes. He *regularly* knocks and, if no answer, let's himself in. His attitude is "what they don't know won't hurt them."

My point is, you have no expectation of privacy in an apartment. What if the person above you has a water leak? The landlord can let himself into your apartment to minimize the cost of repairs to yours.

If I were in an apartment, the only thing I'd do is a stealth cabinet. No light visible. The lowest amount of ventilation to minimize the sound (or, put it in a computer case so it looks like a computer that's turned on).

There's *no* way I'd have a 600w HPS in a closet, with shiney ducting coming out, and the sound of a 4" (or 6") fan running full speed.

Lol.. Well you do kinda have a point but my roomie started with the growing and he's keeping his plants out on the table and such. He's 63 and been living here for 15 years, I don't think he's too concerned with it being an issue. Also my ducting is not shiny, it's vinyl. Ya it looks stupidly obvious but if this yields enough then I'll only be doing one grow here and I have more ideal plans for when I move on. I always keep my curtain closed on my bedroom window, if asked about the ducting I will just say that I am running a humidifier. It's deff not as stealthy as I was hoping for but I don't really care; I need to escalate my financial situation and get out of this rut that I'm in. My redundant life is driving me crazy and that's why I'm into this in the first place. Growing pot wasn't exactly my idea of a dream job but I need to get the fuck above the poverty line already. Getting 2 days a week at McD at the age of 34 is enough to drive anyone to extreme circumstances.

I don't know how you can afford even a MarsHydro and rent at 2-days a week. At 34, I'd suggest you offer to help your roommate grow in return for some yield, and put your money on community college or a trade school. It doesn't get any easier as you get older.

If your goal is to sell, that doesn't work out for most people after they run into pests, additional expenses, etc. (And then there's the disability of a felony record if caught.).

Good luck.

I am only affording it because I was hit by a car and collecting income replacement benefits..If those stop coming in then I am screwed. I also have a credit card atm with 3k limit on it. I am willing to take a temporary debt on that if it will yield me some good profit. I plan to expand my grow as well as going a little more incognito with it once I have a small bank roll to move on to that point.

lol I had this same exact idea when I was 18.. all the way to the 3k credit limit on the mastercard.. If you're planning on turning profit you'll need more space..

Just a question, how much were you thinking you would be able to grow.. and how long do you think it would take?

Well, as for how long I was originally thinking 3 months flat but I've readjusted my expectations since then. Including the time needed to grow out the mother plant/s, do the cuts, wait for the clones to grow in and go through veg cycle .etc and then drying and curing the product at the end. I'm thinking no less than 5-6 months from seed to sell.

As for what I'm expecting, deep pots and pinching and such, no less than 2k worth although 3k would be much more preferable.

What does 3 k worth mean? If you're going to sell tens and 20s..a half p would get you almost 3 gs..but that's to much illegal work...how much can you sell an oz for? Where are you from? 6 months is a long ass time .. that's a full outdoor season.. that means you can only grow it twice a year.. you're not going to make any money growing less then 2 lbs a year... I'm already giving you the benefit of the doubt by saying you will grow about a pound a run..thats what people that have been growing for years get.. getting a lb per 600 means your a very decent grower....bbeing a decent grower your first time is extremely hard.. and usually doesn't happen. .. I'll be rooting for you. Keep us posted, start a journal or something.

I need to do at least a lb in the first run or I won't even pay off my debt + expenses.. While I won't be doing something of this extent http://www.420magazine.com/gallery/data/504/DSCN4890.JPG I do plan to try to get the most posible from each plant for the space that I have. Also I just ordered a http://www.mars-hydro.com/reflector-led-grow-light-144-3w-100.html which should not only be perfect for my grow space and run as cool as I need it to but I will be able to expand my 4X2 closer to a 6X2 meaning I will be able to fit at least one more large plant in there.
As for the numbers, I could sell a lb for at least 2k if it's good stuff. Could sell it for more if I was to sell in oz's cuz those go for around 150-160. If by 10's and 20's you mean dime bags and such, no, I will never go to that level unless it's to a close friend or something.

I know that I don't have experience and there's a good chance that my yield will not meet my expectations but that does not mean that I will lower my expectations. I will do all in my power(without spending thousands(plural) to maximize my yield.

have you already estimated the 135extra dollar a month pgne bill. 6 months a few at 18/6 a few at 12/12.. that's easily close to another 800 dollars. Plus food how do you plan on putting seedlings in soil with enough food to last 6 months? u will also need to invest in nutes..I know you don't want to but mark my words one dayyou're going to come on here asking what's going on with my plants...and everyone's going to tell you they are starving and stunted.Add another 100 bucks for nutrients. .u got to ph your water (drops or ph pen).... you must keep temps low even if that means running your central ac all summer that's a shit load of money right there(add that to the bill). Fans .in line fan, ...not to mention bug sprays even if you don't have any..believe me when you get something you're going to wish you sprayed beforehand. U need to add everything up and see if it's really worth it. and all the shit you need to take clones..soil..take everything into account that way there are no surprises.

You're running a bit on the end of worst case scenario there... Not sure what a pgne bill is but if that's like electricity, it's not even gonna be 30 a month, it woulda been around 30 on my 600w but the LED I've ordered only takes around 280 watts(I know this for sure, I seen someone take an electrical reading off the same light on youtube. So it might be around 15$ extra a month, that's a far cry from your 135$ quote, lol. I'm growing organic(no nutes) and I already know that I will need food for the plant but the starter soil that I bought has that included but I am going to buy some for the soil that I transplant the little ones into. As for PH, I was considering http://www.gainexpress.com/products/zd-07-soil-survey-instrument-4-in-1-ph-f-c-moisture-sunlight for that and that's only 24$. As for bug spray I've already got some stuff to keep ants from making their home in it and I am going to grab some neem oil to keep the spider mites out. As for keeping temps low, on top of getting the LED light which should run much cooler than the 600w HPS, I am going to be getting a http://www.bustan.ca/inline-fan-hurricane-6-435cfm.aspx
For the size of the space and the low heat emitting light that should work.

Oh and a carbon filter but I can get one for around 84$

Where do you live?it costs me almost 2 bills to keep my 4x4set up with a thousand watt running 18 hours , 2 fans and one in line running 24/7. electricity in California is expensive though.. 21 cents a kilowatt....u gotta hope for the best and plan for the worst. ..In 3 months you will say that fucken bird was right...Also you should have stuck with the HPS you down graded ,you for sure won't hit a pound now..Learn how to train Your plants...lst, fim, top, super crop.

Ontario and with the fans, lights, .etc it should not be more than 50 a month at most. Keep in mind that you're running a 1000w light and mine is a fraction of that.
