What the hell is my light?

I was given a light by a friend, its a 200W CFL 6400k, with a future bright reflector with glass across the bottom, which i took off to find a future-brite digital ballast hidden in the reflector, i believe it says CFB/PBL 200W. I for one have never seen a CFL with a seperate ballast, can someone give me any further insight into this light? lumens? I'm currently running it along with 6 little cfls, ranging from 13-23-42watts each, both from red and blue spectrum. I have 2 plants under it, which are probably about 16inches total, but look much smaller because theyre LST'd. they probably stand 12inches. Id like to know if this light setup is going to be enough to flower with or if im going to have to get an hps right away, i plan on doing it eventually but im broke at the moment. Also, since this is a 200W ballast, is there any chance id be able to run an HID bulb of the same wattage? or are they completely different?

thanks everyone.:joint:

all cfls have ballasts but the smaller light bulb cfls have the ballast right there in the socket. But as the bulbs get bigger, so does the ballast so the cfl bulbs can only get so big before you have to have a seperate ballast. What this all means is that its a really good cfl. you'll do fine for a small grow in the vegetative stage.

Yup some of the larger bulbs regualr a ballst thats not in the bulb. The vitalumnes bulbs that are 250 watts have the ballast in the reflector too.

Like fiflthy said, some of the larger vitalumes require a ballast in the reflector. I have a vitalume 200 true watt cfl that has the ballast built into it. I need a red spectrum with a ballast, just can't seem to find one. I just flowered a 13 inch plant under my setup that is like yours, and have two 18 inchers flowering as we speak. It will work.

thanks for the help everybody, 40acres, did the plant you flowered have compact buds? or loose stringy cfl type buds? I flowered a plant at about 14inches under it on my last grow, but due to a bunch of other screwups on my part i only harvested a few grams out of it, and they were really stringy and flufy

I am just drying it right now. It seems really compact and sticky. I also used 65w and 43 watt bulbs as well as the 200. I have pics of it on here under "estimated 30,000 lumens". The vitalume really puts out some light. The buds i got alo grew pretty compact and close together the whole time. I never let them get more than a few inches from one of the higher wattage bulbs.

when it all dries out, id love to know the yield, all this is making me excited to start flowering soon. About 4 weeks into flowering (i hope) im gonna get a 400W hps but until then im really happy with this little setup. I have had a bunch of problems with burning on one of the plants, i had a half-ass setup to hang the light, which would fall down on the plants, or turn and just touch a leaf from time to time. Ive got it under control now though i think.

EDIT: Just calculated everything up and i have almost 20k lumens covering a canopy less than 2x2 (at max the veg room will be 3x2 or so at best), id think thats pretty good, am i way off?
