What the hell happened?!?

image.jpgimage.jpg

Well about 30 minutes ago me and my friends were smoking and one random time when i set the bong down this piece randomly popped out. Me and my friends jaws all dropped when it happened because no one had done anything to cause it to break. I lightly set it down and the piece came out and water spilled
everywhere. This bong is only about a month old and I have never ever had another bong break like this. My bongs have been broken outside on the concrete before but we smoke inside our new house which has wooden floors. It has never been knocked over. Now, does anyone have any idea how I can fix this? The broken piece fits perfectly back in its place so i think I can fix it I just need some ideas. Any help is greatly appreciated! This bong is awesome and I would love tto save it!!!!! It has 12 tree arm Peres nicest bong I have ever had

Damn dude thats super unfortunate. Bottoms of bongs are notoriously thin/ known for breaking. Think of a piece of bubble gum being blown out, the part furthest out of the bubble (base of the bong) is the thinnest.

As for what made it break... idk. It's not like you get any heat stress going on there. I'd say you just hit it in that ONE way that would make it pop out like that. If it's as new as you say, and depending on how well your LHS likes you, then I would take that picture up to the shop and talk to them about it

If you don't want it to be pretty, use PC-7 Epoxy(from home depot) and rest the glass back in there, and epoxy the whole lining of the piece and let it sit for however long the directions say. Turns dark grey and gets as hard as a rock, used it on my first beaker bottom when the glass joint for the down stem to go into the tube got destroyed by a falling ash catcher (disaster). Esp in a spot like that i feel that with water in there, and the fact that the PC-7 is on the outside you would have any issues with smoke or anything heating the epoxy.

But truthfully i've never seen something like that happen before, unless there was just a hairline crack that you didn't happen to notice and the pressure of you setting it down and the water shifting just cracked her and popped that right out. Glass is so weird sometimes.

If its a locally made piece or a piece made by a reputable blower, they might fix or replace it. It looks like some kind of blowing defect. Dude above me nailed it I think.

I tried fixing my bubbler with epoxy, it didn't work. There's not really a good way to keep the water from getting between the epoxy and glass, so it eventually breaks the seal again :(

i had a RooR that did this. i set it down on my hardwood floor and poof... game over. THE WHOLE bottom piece came off and about half the beaker part. right from the corner of the bottom bevel like yours did. my guess is some piece of sand that was made up of some super hard mineral just happened too miraculously hit the right spot and TADA you get a magical crack. absolutely blew my mind when it happened lol.

Atleast its a clean break, if the guys who blew it cant fix it for you, just grab some JB-Quick (make sure its the Quick) and patch it yourself. Wont look pretty but it will be as hard as steel and only takes about 20 mins to get that way
