What do you think about using a portable air conditioner?

I can place the a/c near the light and position the vents to blow towards the cool tube to keep it cool.

I've read stories about people blowing HID bulbs when a sudden blast of cold air comes pouring out of the A/C. I think that any fan rated at >400 cfm will do the job. You may want to put it on a dimmer to dial it in for heat/sound.

I have a 1000wtt hps-hid in a cool tube, 6" ducting, about twenty feet of it with an extra 180 degree bend to block light from shining out. The fan is a cheap 'Duct Booster' inline axial fan, available at the big box store's for around $30.00. Does a fine job. Even the 4" blowing outside air through the light and out an exit would be adequate. I am of the opinion that if you had outside air coming in at floor level and the exit for the cool tube close to the ceiling it would almost vent itself using the chimney effect. This is the reason you keep that system separate from the rest of your air handling system. It make the rest of it so much easier to deal with. VV
