What qualifies you for a card?

My wife and I currently live in an old fashioned state, more prone to carrying firearms than MJ, but may be moving to Washington for a better job opportunity in the near future.

I currently suffer from scoliosis, not severe but still painful (yes my spine has an embarrassing curve to it), and my upper thoracic vertebrae have been worn down. I have the x-rays to prove it, and have been issued a steady diet of pain killers, muscle relaxants and anti-inflammatory's. I cannot effectively function on such a heavy drug regimen, and often choose pain over drugs. I have found MJ to be a wonderful solution for my back issues that doesn't leave me a complete vegetable, and I prefer it to my current drug cocktail. Obviously taking a legal route is preferable to my current situation.

Would these back issues qualify me for a card in the state of Washington? I'm just trying to get all my ducks in a row. Thanks for the help guys, cheers.

It really just depends on what the doctor says however it sounds like you would be able to. I have heard from many including one of the people that works at a clinic that one of the main things the doctor wants to see is that you have tried to use alternate medication but it isn't working for you in one way or another. Anyways good luck. Look at NORML.org among a few other sites to learn more.

Hey Dubious, I live in Wa also. It is easy to get your card! I mean EASY! I broke my hand when I was a kid and once as an adult. I went to the doctor and told him that the pain has been getting worse in my hand lately and more so when it gets cold outside. I am only 33 yrs old by the way, and secondly the only time my hand hurt was when I broke it!!! I just wanted my card. But my doctor diagnosed it as the first stages of arthrits! I think the whole BS about it hurting more when it is cold tiped him off to that. They even x-rayed my hand and the doc told me that he didn't see much of anything. So they gave me a prescription for Mortrin. I got a copy of that visit the next day and went and saw the weed doctor and told him that if I am taking pills for this now what and I going to be taking when I get older. And that I was looking for an alternative medication to taking pills for the rest of my life that will destroy my liver. $200 later I have a card and now I am growing/carying leagaly. Just don't get stupid and grow more or have more than what you are allowed. 15 plants and 24oz is way more than what you could use! And if you wife gets one too double that ammount!

So what would happen if I, hypothetically, got a card and grow but my wife doesn't have one? Is the there a legal issue with that? Surely this is a common occurrence. Thanks for the help.

Well my wife is in the NAVY and she doesn't smoke at all, but the law states that I can have 15 plants and 24 oz's. And we own our house and my wife and I are comfortable that the law wont fuck us. If you are asking if you wife is in posestion of weed then she can still be busted for it. If she is high then she can still get in trouble. The "card" only applies to you. If you live in the house and it is grown in the house you guys will be fine. Just put all your documentation on your grow room. Just stick with the law and you will be fine!

I am telling you dubious you and your wife can both get cards up here! It is crazy easy and you guys will both be able to carry, smoke, and also grow 30 plants!

The only thing you need to do is get some documentation on anything you can say is chronic pain and you are in. It is a-lot easier than you think. Get your card frist then you will see. Depending on where you live I can suggest a place for you to go.

Thanks Howard. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything that would make her liable if she didn't have card-- being in the same house and all. She said she wouldn't mind having a card, but is more concerned with me and my chronic back issues. She has pretty severe asthma, and has to use a nebulizer occasionally. She also has to carry an epipen in her purse-- that thing looks like it would hurt to stab yourself with! I don't know if that's applicable to qualifying. I've got plenty of documentation, so it's sound like I'll be just fine.

The jobs isn't mine yet, but we're still looking at houses, school districts, and all that fun stuff. I appreciate the help. Cheers!

Well I hope you get the job bro! And like I said even if something isn't wrong with your wife that qualifies here just make something up like I did! LOL Two cards are better than one! But she is fine inside the house if someone there has a card. No problems at all. Get a house with a basement that you can vent out of!!!!! LOL

Our membership program actually offers both a yearly renewal program, and a three year renewal program. And renewals written from us, even three year renewals, are always $100...

Im curious about this...I believe i could be a qualifying patient. But I dont really know how to go about bringing it up at a doctors office or anything. Im not sure any of the doctors that i could see would want to discuss that, let alone know about MMJ that much.

I know that i couldnt just go in and ask for weed...I would have to describe my condition, and after tests they'd probably issue me pain relief medications (which i am against....I cant stand pharmaceuticals and their side effects).

I have some pretty bad back pain... combined with muscle spasms...could be some nerve damage.

If i were to get a recommendation of medicinal use from my physician, i.e: paperwork that shows that he/she discussed the benefits/risks and all that....Then what? Do i send that into one of these patient compassion organizations? Or is just the paperwork containing the physicians recommendation enough? I'm clueless.

For me, occasional MMJ use relieves muscle tension and calms me down when my condition flares up. I hope that I could qualify for something like this...as the pain gets hard to deal with at times, and i really don't like pain killers.

Any advice, recommendations, or links would help (ive already read the WA state legislature site on MM use, and ive read through the "Satica" site)

This is what I did, go to your doctor and tell him about your pain. He will prescribe pain meds to you. The next day go get a copy of that visit, take those records to a MMJ place and let them know that you have "chronic back pain" and the "conventional medicine" isn't working. I did that for arthritis in my hand :) and I just didn't want to be on pain meds the rest of my life! PM me if you need more info, if you live near Seattle I can give you contacts of where I went. It was very easy!

I am sure your scoliosis will qualify you. I have three herniated disks and arthritis in my neck. I also have a host of other issues including two autoimmune problems...one that is killing my liver. I requested the reports from my neck MRI and that was all my doctor required, we didn't even have to talk about my other issues.

It is a good alternative to narcotics if it works for you, pain medications are much harder to get in this state, even if you need them. I can't take pain medications as they are bad for my liver, so are anti-inflammatory medications and muscle relaxers.

Intractable pain/spasms are both qualifiers. Seems you have proven your issues considering the cocktail your doctors have you on. Be sure and bring a few "chart notes" with you to prove your condition and you will be fine.
