I lived above some muslims for over two years. My unit REEKED of curry powder and BO!!!!!!!!!!
My muslims neighbors didn't believe in using AC. Even on the hottest summer days, they would at most open the screen door to the patio. They even left their front door open.
...and I swear the woman cooked CONSTANTLY.
I kid you not...just exiting my place, a horrendous wave of that stench left me nauteous. I can laugh at it now, but I was a prisoner in my own home....couldn't open the doors for fresh air and couldn't close the doors for relief.
Since there's no such thing as a "smell ordinance"--unless it comes from that "devil weed"....I grinned and beared it. I purchased air cleaners, cloroxed the walls, painted....NOTHING was getting rid of that wretched smell.
